The journalists and executive producers who covered these stories had to make sure that no one involved could have any communist activities pinned on them cause that would contradict their stories. These journalist also made sure that all parties represented such as the man who was kicked out of the navy for his father's activities and the navy commanders that kicked him
As an important part of the movie, the beginning, started with a troop of Americans in Korea that were caught by Russians due to a schemed trap. Basically, that marks the start of the espionage, by the fact that Raymond and his army colleagues were brainwashed to do whatever the Soviets or Koreans would like them to do. This part of the movie relates to the happening of the Cold War were the Soviets had a spy to figure out a way to steal the ideas of nuclear weapons in the United States to the Soviet Union. According to the book “The Unfinished Nation” by Alan Brinkley, in the Cold War1 section it says that “In 1948, Whittaker Chambers, a former communist agent, now a conservative editor at Time magazine, told the committee that Hiss had passed classified State Department documents to him in 1937 and 1938”. This
Murrow held on October 25, 1958 followed with a speech from him on the stage. The movie flashbacks to Murrow’s life as a journalist and the efforts made in his television program, See It Now. It provided insight into the issues that occurred inside the CBS News building such as the decisions that Murrow bypassed by his Chief, William S. Paley. In addition, the screen paused to provide information that read: “Throughout the 1940’s and 1950’s America was overwhelmed with concerns about the threat of communism. Senator Joseph McCarthy made a public accusation that more than two hundred ‘card-carrying’ communists had infiltrated the United States government. Few in the press were willing to stand up against McCarthy for fear they would be targets (SITE MOVIE).” This showed background information how the fear of communism was a big issue in the 1940’s and 1950’s. In addition, the movie included many visual references to the issue of communism from previous recordings that show how McCarthy acts and what he says about

After the men were arrested, one of them named James W. McCord Jr. admitted to having connections with the CIA which sparked the reporters interest
The government would inaccurately portray communism many times to make them look more egregious than they really were.
Firstly, the journalists are reporting from two vastly different locations. One is reporting from the comfort of an office and familiar surroundings, while the other is reporting from a war stricken foreign land. Although, there is a common tie, they both involved and had the ability to effect the government and they were all in danger. All of the journalists had the opportunity to report on the truth, even if it were to have political and even personal repercussions. Thus, due to the political nature, all of the journalists were putting their lives at risk and were aware of this. They also had the ability of putting other lives in danger. Woodward and Bernstein discovered how the information they were gathering had to be used strategically in order to not harm their sources, and Flynn and Henderson had the ability to create further conflict and terror for the country they were reporting about. Thus, all of the journalists had to learn how to use precautions while investigating, writing, and reporting on their given
In Good Night and Good Luck, director George Clooney follows the conflict between outspoken television journalist Edward R. Murrow and anti-communist Senator Joseph McCarthy during the hard times of the Red Scare. Murrow uses his television show to expose McCarthy’s fallacious arguments, while providing his own opinion on the matter. He begins by defending former Air Force pilot Milo Radulovich as not being the Communist agent McCarthy charges him to be. Due to his radical messages against McCarthy, advertisers begin pulling their advertisements. Thus Good Night and Good Luck was placed at an undesired time slot on Sunday afternoons, and allotted five last episodes. The conflict between Murrow and McCarthy is so deep that due to his outspoken messages against a politician, the program eventually becomes subject to cancellation. Although his arguments are controversial for that time, Murrow shows courage while exposing McCarthy’s fallacious arguments, by displaying how McCarthy is making false accusations towards Radulovich.
When discussing the various time periods in which communism was the main focus in several parts of our world, there are many factors and events that have arose because of it. Numerous people had mixed feelings about the development of communism and one specific group, called the Hollywood Ten felt as if communism was the right direction for our nation to move in. However, many people opposed this group and various acts were passed as well as court cases that had proceeded because of the Hollywood Ten (“Hollywood Blacklist”). It was mentioned that almost all of the members “were convicted in federal court the following year, they were given sentences of six months to one year in prison,” (“Hollywood Ten”). The Hollywood Ten was a communist group
Taking advantage of the situation, Joseph McCarthy, a right wing senator, accused thousands of public figures of being a communist or associating with the group, and brought many of them to court for it. Most of the people targeted during this time were well known by the public, usually being a government official, celebrity, or homosexual, and shared a common viewpoint; they were well known for being a leftist (“Joseph R. McCarthy”). He often had little evidence to backup his claims, but proceeded to blame the advancement of communist governments on secret communists in the US government. When the accused were brought to court, McCarthy would often times exaggerate their views to where it could be believable that they were communists, but in most cases there was never enough proof to indict them. His position of power is what allowed him to continue to reveal the secret communists in the US, even with his lack of information to backup his claims. McCarthy wasn’t the only one exposing innocent people as communists throughout the country (“McCarthy Says Communists Are in State Department”). After seeing how he could still succeed and people were still supporting him, groups emerged solely to expose communists living in the US, just like McCarthy was doing. Mccarthy’s actions lead to a mass hysteria of falsely exposing people as communists, and
During the years of Cold War, the House on Un-American Activities Committee or HUAC was created to investigate and conduct search on all the activities, groups and people who are involved or have a connection with Communist in the United States. The House of Committee has the capability to send an individual to prison if a person refuses to cooperate or provide a testimony during the legal proceeding or prosecution by issuing a subpoena. Legal proceedings were held to investigate or examine the involvement of an individual with the Communist and it could affect a larger number of people including the one in the entertainment industries. In addition, there are ten directors including writers invited and questioned by the committee.
In the story, Democrats and Communists Senator Joseph McCarthy discusses how the communists are ruining the nation. The majority of the state department at this time was filled with communists which McCarthy did not think was right. He considered the state department to be an extremely important department and thought that the communists were infesting it and making our nation have tratorous like actions. The reason America was losing the cold war was due to the Truman administration being swarmed with communists. McCarthy claimed to know 205 of the communists and the ones who questioned his methods were the ones whom were the subject of attacks as well as smear campaigns. Then, in 1950 Millard Tydings dismissed McCarthy’s charges and considered
Villanelle poems are a famous form of poetry, it originated in France, meaning country like. Villanelles use to be lyrical poems that would talk about the countryside. More modern villanelles can now be written about anything, such as death, love, guilt, etc. A more modern definition of a villanelle is, a nineteen line poem divided into five three-line stanzas (Tercets), and has a final quatrain. In each tercet, the rhyme scheme is aba, and the quatrain has a rhyme scheme of abaa. Villanelles also use a distinct pattern of repetition, for example, lines one and three of the first stanza are used as refrains throughout the poem, and paired as the final couplet. Therefore, line one would be replicated in lines six, twelve, and eighteen, and line three would be repeated in lines nine, fifteen, and nineteen.
I was about six years old and I didn’t understand a thing when my mother had first told me about it. I remember her and father talking about the spread of communism a lot at breakfast.”
In the book the Wish You Well in can relate to Romeo and Juliet by how neither one of the characters families wanted them together in the story Diamond told Lou and Oz. It also can relate because like Romeo and Juliet they would do whatever they had to do to be together, because they were so deep in love and didn't want anyone else but each other. Also another thing that relates is that could relate to the story is that they families hated each other so much they would never stand for the love they had for each other, also like Romeo and Juliet they where planning to run off with each other so they could be together. The last thing that would make the same is plot of each story. One thing that would make them different is that this story
