Whenever you turn on a TV, there is a chance you will see people getting killed by each other, about typhoon claiming lives of hundred people or starting revolution in the Middle East. Just like watching as a teenager, violence meetings in Egypt, exposed use of child labor in India, spread AIDS in Africa made me feel rather heartbroken. But we usually don’t realize how serious the situation is until it comes to us. There is so many things happening around the globe, people just got used to it, and feel it is normal. In Nussbaum’s article I have a problem with the unrealistic goal of universal cosmopolitanism, as it is impossible for an individual to think of themself fully a citizen of the world. A sense of home identification will always linger as no one feels welcome or is welcomed in every nation or community on earth. It is impossible to make a patriotic person non patriotic as no one person has had the exact same

The meaning of citizenship as a concept varies significantly for each individual-this meaning is directly influenced by factors such as age, ideological beliefs and socioeconomic class. Due to this difference in perspective it is difficult to pinpoint exactly what citizenship entails concerning the balance between the freedoms that we experience as citizens and the responsibilities that we must each fulfill in order for a democracy to function with stability and efficiency. This has become an issue in modern society as some citizens (particularly those in the millennial cohort) shrug off traditional duty based citizenship norms such as voting in elections, paying income taxes and obeying the law- for more “engaged” forms of participation such
What does it mean to be a citizen? What does it mean to be a part of a country? I believe that being a citizen is much more than just living in the same country for a set number of years. There are several ways that the word "citizen" can be defined. For example, individuals may say that when you do good deeds and make your country a better place you are considered a citizen. When you work hard to donate to your country you are showing that you believe in While there are other individuals believe that being a good citizen means portraying kindness, generosity, a helping hand; what some people may refer to as a servants heart. Of course, different countries will have different interpretations of what citizen is and
...o the bigger picture. Absorbed in their daily routines and petty problems. Like governments, people choose to spend more money on war issues - fix someone else’s problem - rather than staying home and feeding the poor - to fix own problems. Thus like a kettle boiling water, screaming for help, only some major event will finally bring people to their senses. Which is why as a society we should be taught to be more aware of what truly happens around us rather than reacting in the last minute.
