Warming Ice
Think of bodies of ice bigger than some countries. Bodies of ice that impacts our daily lives. Such chunks of ice are most are commonly known as the North pole or the South pole. In reality, these great bodies of ice found throughout most of the planet and do more than just provide us a cold breeze. They have been contributing in drastic things such as global warming, the water we drink, and many agricultural influences around the globe. As time has passed, naturally, with gas emissions, pollution and global warming has caused the Earth to warm. In exchange, ice caps are melting more and more, and yet as more time passes we will soon see the drastic effects of the disappearance of ice caps. These chunks of ice continue to grow

Sea ice is white so although it does not get much sunlight when it does, it reflects most sunlight back into space. This reflection is known as "albedo," helps keep the poles cold by limiting their heat absorption. As shrinking ice exposes more water to sunlight, the ocean absorbs more heat, then melts more ice and pushes albedo even further. In winter, the Arctic Ocean is warmer than the air. Personal needs and beliefs get in the way of getting a clear and fast solution. Other solutions towards global warming are already being thought of in the United States and elsewhere in the world. One of the most commonly known but not most effective ways to prevent global warming is through recycling. Recycling has been around for almost fifty years. People are responsible for higher carbon dioxide atmosphere emissions, while the Earth is now into the Little Ice Age, or just behind it. These factors together cause many years discussions of the main sources of climate changes and the temperature increasing as a result of human been or natural changes and its consequences; even if its lead to the global warming, or to the Earth’s cooling. Revkin and “Global Warming Is Not a Threat to Polar Ice” by Philip Stott, both authors discuss these two theories (Revkin 340; Stott 344). Revkin is right that global warming is taking place. Significant increase of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is due to human activities combined with natural factors such as volcanic emissions and solar radiation – all together they lead to climate changes and temperatures rising. At the same time, other factors such as deforestation contribute to environmental changes for some glaciers not less than air pollution. However, during global warming not all regions of the planet are affected in the same way, local warming and cooling are both possible during these changes.
In the movie “Ice and sand” it talks about the polar ice caps. These ice caps are located at the north and south poles of the Earth, and take up a large potion of the earth’s water. Ice caps fluctuate from year to year, growing and shrinking with weather changes. Greenhouse gasses are causing these ice caps to melt more and more every year though. If the ice caps were to melt completely, it would raise our ocean level ten to twenty stories about what it is now. This would send places like Nova Scotia, Vancouver, and New York completely under water. Scientists are not really quit sure what will happen with green house gases, whether they will cause a flood from melting the ice caps, or whether it will send us into another ice age. If it were to send us into another ice age, only people in very southern countries would be likely to survive due to the extremely cold whether.
Chasing Ice is a documentary on climate change, the rise of CO2 gases and seeing what effect these two factors have on glaciers. Climate change is a incredibly serious problem because it kills off special species that the world needs in which humans are causing this problem. A photographer decided he wanted to try and capture life’s changing images of many glaciers to determine what effect climate change truly had on the world. In addition to lowering greenhouse gas levels and using cleaner energy sources, there are things we can do as people to stop climate change. We could reduce our use of electricity at our homes by turning off the lights when we leave the room, turning down/up the heating/ac when it is unnecessary, and using less water. Polar bears are one of the countless species who are endangered. They were one of the first animals affected by global warming and their population is heavily decreasing. Around 1980, the Arctic was as large as 8 million square kilometres. In 2011, studies show that the Arctic has reduced its size to 4.5 million square kilometers.
