A variety of movies have boring plots and uninteresting storylines, however they are a few diamonds in the rough like The Freedom Writers. The Freedom Writers is an in-depth perspective upon the rough suburban lives of what seems to be severely uneducated teenagers living in poverty. The movie was set in Woodrow Wilson High School which is located in Long Beach California. The school opened up voluntarily to implement an integrated program which was a major flaw and is severely unsuccessful. All ethnic backgrounds don’t abide by the rules nor get along with one another… The school does not attempt to train or teach the struggling youth the school more so became a cage for students until they themselves dropout or are expelled. The Freedom Writers successfully utilising many aspects that major film industry companies utilise to create smash hit movies, for example the use of suburban music and camera angels to show perspective and the struggle that the youth encounter every day (Fights, use of drugs, and gun violence). The Freedom Writers was written and produced by Richard LaGravenese, however there was three producers, including the following; Danny Devito, Stacy Sher, and Michael Shamberg. …show more content…

Tell the stories about how one ethnic group rules over the other nationalities. Making it known that they have more power. This resulted from segregation because of their colored skin. They both have different situations. The “FreeWriters” is about a classroom full of kids who have poor situations, and have to defend for their lives because of their nationalities. Their teacher inspires and teaches them respect, that they all can make it in life, and that they're all equal no matter what anyone says.It was a real story taken place in La, California in the 1990s. The book “To Kill A Mockingbird” is about between whites and blacks. It takes place in Maycomb, Alabama back in the late 1930s and early 1940s. This book is fiction but based on reality.
For this essay I will be looking at the work of Hans Zimmer to discuss how music in film engages the viewer and evokes emotion and pulls the viewer toward the film. Hans Zimmer is a German born music composer. Hans Zimmer’s love of music stems from his childhood when he learned how to play various instruments. Before Zimmer began composing music for films he was in a well-known band. The band was called The Buggles whom were famous for their song Video Killed the Radio Star. After the Buggles Zimmer played in other bands but never had another hit. As Zimmer has progressed as a film composer so has his list of nominations and awards. Zimmer has won 4 Grammy Awards and 2 Golden Globes and many more for his outstanding film scores. The reason I chose to write this essay on Zimmer was that his genres and music score are extremely versatile ranging from animations to comedy to dark thrillers. This is important to highlight as it shows Zimmer can create almost any atmosphere with his music whether it be sad or creating tension that all cause us to engage with the film. Zimmer's use of themes and introduction of different instruments allowed him to create these wonderful engaging film score. In this essay I will look at three films by Hans Zimmer these are The Holiday Rush and Rain Man.
Freedom is having the right to own, act, think, and speak without any restrictions from the outside. Ever since the New World was discovered, people have been fighting for their independence till this day. People of other colors and race have been forced to do labor without their consent. Today, those same people have been blamed or accused of crimes that were not committed by them despite of being free. Freedom has different meanings and those meanings change overtime; however sometimes the significance of freedom does not change.
The Free Speech Movement (FSM) at the University of California at Berkeley started during the fall of 1964. (Freeman, Jo) But there were many events leading up to this point. The Free Speech Movement began to obtain momentum in the fall of 1963 and the spring of 1964 the Bay Area was rocked with the civil rights demonstrations against employers who practiced racial discrimination. (Freeman, Jo) These students believed that this was wrong and felt the need to do something about it. So many Berkeley students were recruited for these protests from Bancroft and Telegraph which where the companies that were racial discriminating against races and groups of people.(Freeman, Jo) With these protest there were many arrest made of Berkeley students there were about 500 arrests made over several months. Erin Gruwell began her teaching career at Woodrow Wilson High School in Long Beach, California where the school is integrated but it’s not working. Mrs. Gruwell is teaching a class fill with at-risk teenagers that are not interested in learning. But she makes not give up, instead she inspires her students to take an interest in their education and planning for their future as she assigned materials that can relate to their lives. The film Freedom Writers directed by Richard La Gravenese is an American film based on the story of a dedicated and idealistic teacher named Erin Gruwell, who inspires and teaches her class of belligerent students that there is hope for a life outside gang violence and death. Through unconventional teaching methods and devotion, Erin eventually teaches her pupils to appreciate and desire a proper education. The film itself inquiries into several concepts regarding significant and polemical matters, such as: acceptance, racial conflict, bravery, trust and respect. Perhaps one of the more concentrated concepts of the film, which is not listed above, is the importance and worth of education. This notion is distinctly displayed through the characters of Erin, Erin’s pupils, opposing teachers, Scott and numerous other characters in the film. It is also shown and developed through the usage of specific dialogue, environment, symbolism, and other film techniques.

Mrs. Erin Gruwell had compassion for the students; when they saw how much she cared they changed their perspectives on life. Against all odds toward against Mrs. Erin Gruwell, she had the power of human will to teach the student. The writer introduced several scenarios on how young innocent children were influenced by family and friends of the same racial background to create hatred and gang’s violence against other races. Five messages in Freedom Writer are: Non judgmental, Racism, having compassion, the power of the human will, and education. Being non judgmental, having compassion and having human will helped Mrs. Erin Gruwell educate the children at Woodrow Wilson Classical High School. Segregated by race, united with education.
Freedom. The word is used often and carelessly, and while many would claim to be free, few actually are. Some people spend their lives trying to break free of the chains placed upon them, whether their prisons are life’s responsibilities, burdens that others place on them, personal mistakes, or even mental illness. We must all shoulder our crosses at some point, but I know that there is more to life than this. I know that we can choose to break our bonds and that we have the power to alter our paths. When I am a psychologist, my goal will be to help my clients see the world with a new clarity and be able to discover a freedom of their own.
Freedom Writers is exalted by a true story and the diaries of real Long Beach juvenile after the LA riots also known as the 1992 Los Angeles Civil Unrest. Hilary Swank a two-time Academy Award winner stars as Erin Gruwell whose interest in becoming a teacher is soon ruined by a bunch of Blacks, Asian, and Latino criminals who disrespect her more than each other. When Erin prepares to concentrate on them like no grown up as ever done she soon realizes that for these kids getting through the day alive is good enough, they are teenagers fighting a war long ago before they were born. Like no other teacher in that school, Erin gives the students respect and dignity. For the first time, these teens soon understand that their lives matter and they have something to say.
