Life is an individual race, but teamwork is needed to overcome obstacles and accomplish success. Teamwork is the combined action of a group of people, especially when effective and efficient. It is essential to put aside differences to achieve a common goal because it helps to break labels and forms new relationships. There is much in literature, film, and reality that reveals that unity and reaching a collective goal is a definite possibility. Freedoms Writers diary explores the concept of partnership as well the movie black panther, and the film; remember the Titans. The book Freedom Writers diary is about a dedicated teacher in a racially divided school who has a class of at-risk teenagers deemed incapable of learning. When handling a controversial subject, it is important to recognize the opinion of everyone, not just of oneself. If an author does not recognize, at least to some degree, the opinion of everyone in their audience, they risk losing the interest of readers whose opinions are different. African American writers must consider how it feels to be an African American to their audience; they must understand that there is no such thing as one identity for an entire race.
On October 29, 1929, the stock market crashed and the US went through one of its hardest times. This difficult time was known as the great depression and US citizens were facing unemployment, poverty, and hunger. The President during the beginning of this time period (1929-39) was Herbert Hoover (1929-33), his plan was a “hand’s off” policy in which the government wasn’t largely involved in the situation. Hoover raised taxes and had many failed attempts at helping (encouraging the opening of soup kitchens and big businesses to help) but overall, this only allowed the economy to fall even more and US citizens to go through a hard time period. From a managers standpoint you begin to realize the difference between the “I” and the “we” component of a team. You rely on each team member having a substantial amount of effort and involvement with the overall goal of the mission. For when the times comes each specialized team member must come forward and contribute their part in the overall objective, then return to their role as part of the team. Also, managers must support and remain confident in the decisions made by their team members. Sometimes major decisions must be made under a restricted time frame, and as the manager you must trust the solutions prescribed by your staff. Finally, you must take into consideration “human limitations”. No human being is perfect, and mistakes are inevitable, especially under stress.
Erin Gruwell began her teaching career at Woodrow Wilson High School in Long Beach, California where the school is integrated but it’s not working. Mrs. Gruwell is teaching a class fill with at-risk teenagers that are not interested in learning. But she makes not give up, instead she inspires her students to take an interest in their education and planning for their future as she assigned materials that can relate to their lives. Collaboration is people agreeing to work together (Homan, 2011). As we go through the process of collaborating, conflicts will arise however, during these times of conflict which will usually be based on people’s perceptions and feelings, this writer would bring knowledgeable information to the table based on facts. We would not dismiss the conflict however, work through it; which would include allowing people the opportunity to vent. However through the collaboration we would create a shared vision. Through leadership and advocacy we become change agents that are building a web of support. Through advocacy we will be the glue that binds the community together through human rights
A group of people working on a team means a group of different sets of minds working together. Thus, it is inevitable that there may arise conflicts on a certain topic within the team, as certain viewpoint may seem right for the circumstances for some teammates and may different for others. However, it is not that they are not solvable.
In the later 1800’s and early 1900’s there was still widespread prejudice against African Americans and white people feared what educated black people might do. W.E.B. Du Bois wanted the most intelligent African Americans to lead their people forward in pursuit of civil rights, acceptance, and social and political equality. This approach to gaining equality would not work during that time. Actions like Du Bois insisted upon would have caused uprisings and potential violence. However, Washington’s ideas appealed to both African Americans and white people.
The movie I decided to analyze was Remember the Titans. I examined the dilemmas and ethical choices that were displayed throughout the story. In the early 1970s, two schools in Alexandria Virginia integrate forming T.C. Williams High School. The Caucasian head coach of the Titans is replaced by an African American coach (Denzel Washington) from North Carolina, which causes a fury among white parents and students. Tensions arise quickly among the players and throughout the community when players of different races are forced together on the same football team. Coach Boone is a great example of a leader. He knows he faces a tough year of teaching his hated team. But, instead of listening to the hating town or administrators, Boone pushes his team to their limits and forces good relationships between players, regardless of race. His vision for the team involves getting the players concerned in what the team needs to become, and not what it is supposed to be; a waste. Boone is a convincing leader with a brutal, boot camp approach to coaching. He believes in making the players re-build themselves as a team. When Boone says, You will wear a jacket, shirt, and tie. If you don't have one buy one, can't afford one then borrow one from your old man, if you don't have an old man, then find a drunk, trade him for his. It showed that he was a handy Craftsman and wanted done what he wanted done no matter what it took.During training camp, Boone pairs black players with white players and instructs them to learn about each other. The film Freedom Writers directed by Richard La Gravenese is an American film based on the story of a dedicated and idealistic teacher named Erin Gruwell, who inspires and teaches her class of belligerent students that there is hope for a life outside gang violence and death. Through unconventional teaching methods and devotion, Erin eventually teaches her pupils to appreciate and desire a proper education. The film itself inquiries into several concepts regarding significant and polemical matters, such as: acceptance, racial conflict, bravery, trust and respect. Perhaps one of the more concentrated concepts of the film, which is not listed above, is the importance and worth of education. This notion is distinctly displayed through the characters of Erin, Erin’s pupils, opposing teachers, Scott and numerous other characters in the film. It is also shown and developed through the usage of specific dialogue, environment, symbolism, and other film techniques.

It is very common that conflicts arise within teams and this likelihood increase in a diverse group. Different backgrounds, values, beliefs, race and age trigger differences in a diverse group, if these differences are not mediated on time or prevented the performance of the job and deadlines could be jeopardized. Thirteen years ago, we met for the first time. Along the way, some additions and some subtractions were made throughout; leaving us with the group you see before you. Throughout our high school journey, as a very dysfunctional family, many good and some not so good memories were made that shaped us into the people we are today. Most classes grow up together, uniting as a group; or a family. It would be a lie to say this also happened with our class, as we are all so different. Our class holds so much diversity, it makes sense why we don’t seem to mesh together smoothly. But that is what makes us unique. Like the pieces of a puzzle. Each piece in a puzzle is different. Not every piece fits together, but they all have their own place in the big picture. That is what symbolizes our class. A puzzle. We are all so unique, and diverse, but all together we all come to form the big picture.
