American history is filled with bold, brave, and determined presidents. All of these great leaders made many significant contributions to the history of the United States using their specific qualities and strengths. Out of all of these inspiring leaders, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt is the best president because of the crises he faced and his reactions to them. President Roosevelt served as the U.S. President from 1933 to 1945 and was the longest serving U.S. Roosevelt was born on January 30, 1882 in Hyde Park, New York into a wealthy family. Labeled as average throughout his early years, he strives to please his superiors and graduated from Harvard. Roosevelt practiced corporate law in New York for a few years, but felt bored Roosevelt is the best president because he created a secure banking system by passing the Emergency Banking Act. During his term, Americans stopped trusting banks as a result of losses during the Great Depression. Roosevelt’s Emergency Banking Act was passed on March 9, 1933 in order to restore this faith and confidence. The president suspended all banking transactions for a week in March of 1933 by declaring a four-day banking holiday immediately after his inauguration. Following the reopening of the banks, the Emergency Banking Act was passed in order to effectively deal with the banking crises. According to Roosevelt, this act was “promptly and patriotically passed by the Congress...[that] gave authority to develop a program of rehabilitation of our banking facilities...The new law allows the twelve Federal Reserve Banks to issue additional currency on good assets and thus the banks that reopen will be able to meet every legitimate call. The new currency is being sent out by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing to every part of the country.” The Act also expanded the powers of the president during a banking crisis and successfully restored the faith of American citizens with the help of other legislation. This Act significantly improved the condition of the New York Stock Market and impacted the Federal Reserve by creating a new monetary policy system. These programs, which were created between 1933 and 1938, aimed to restore prosperity to Americans by stabilizing the economy and creating jobs for unemployed Americans. The first New Deal established the Federal Emergency Relief Administration, the Civilian Conservation Corps, The Agricultural Adjustment Administration, and several other programs in order to alleviate unemployment. These programs granted loans for creating relief programs, employed millions of Americans by building infrastructure, and helped facilitate agriculture. Roosevelt’s Second New Deal established the Works Projects Administration, the Social Security Act, and the National Labor Relations Act. These programs employed millions of people in public works projects, provided economic security, and granted more rights to employees. The New Deal advocated for women’s rights, worked towards ending discrimination in the workplace, offered various jobs to African Americans, and employed millions through new relief programs. Roosevelt’s New Deal provided jobs to millions and provided relief for ailing farmers. Public works projects and Roosevelt’s water policy improved the standard of living in under developed rural areas. For the first time in American history, the government took responsibility for helping citizens. Theodore Roosevelt was born on October 27 1858 in Manhattan, New York. His parents were Theodore Roosevelt Sr. and Martha Bulloch Roosevelt. Growing up Teddy learned to love the outdoors and exercise. He part took in many activities like history, reading, and hunting in his early childhood. Teddy didn’t come from a poor family at all, Teddy was tutored at home by private teachers and took many trips to Europe and the Middle East. Teddy later went to further his education at Harvard University in 1876, where he would study many subjects like, German, history, zoology, forensics, and writing. Since he had some many interest it helped him become a well rounded individual and not just a one minded man. During his time at Harvard Teddy met his future wife Alice Hathaway Lee and were married in1880. After his marriage with Alice he decided to go to school at Columbia to study law. However, he decided to drop out after a year there to study political science. Teddy was then elected to the New York Assembly and served from 1882 to 1884. After he served in the assembly a tragedy occurred. Both his wife and mother died just within a couple hours of each other. After his tragic losses he moved out west to become a rancher to try to recover from both of the losses. Throughout history, America has had a plethora of leaders. A handful of these leaders have found a place in the hearts of many Americans. Franklin D. Roosevelt, commonly referred to as FDR, is without a doubt one of these leaders. FDR made new laws, put forth many ideas, and raised the public’s morale before, during, and after WWII. He affected America in such a way that he brought us out of the slums of the Great Depression.
Coming into the 1930’s, the United States underwent a severe economic recession, referred to as the Great Depression. Resulting in high unemployment and poverty rates, deflation, and an unstable economy, the Great Depression considerably hindered American society. In 1932, Franklin Roosevelt was nominated to succeed the spot of presidency, making his main priority to revamp and rebuild the United States, telling American citizens “I pledge you, I pledge myself, to a new deal for the American people," (“New” 2). The purpose of the New Deal was to expand the Federal Government, implementing authority over big businesses, the banking system, the stock market, and agricultural production. Through the New Deal, acts were passed to stimulate the economy, aid banks, alleviate environmental problems, eliminate poverty, and create a stronger central government (“New”1).

Many lives were shattered with the downfall of the market, every single movement by the Federal Reserve was watched and banks began to fail with the continuous withdraws of money, forcing many to close down leaving Americans who never get their money in time poor. One man though, had the rights and the responsibilities to change our economic situation, and shape what we know today as America. Franklin D. Roosevelt’s New Deal Program, others considered World War II the end of the Great Depression and the economic crisis in its entirety, blaming Franklin D. Roosevelt for not implementing bigger reforms in order to turn the tide of the Great Depression.
Roosevelt immediately gained the public's favor with his liberal ideas. In the first 100 days, Roosevelt stabilized banks with the Federal Bank Holiday. In the New Deal he fought poverty with the TVA, NRA, AAA, CCC, PWA, and CWA. These policies were definitely liberal in the 1930's and because of the new programs, Roosevelt received false credit for ending the Depression. Ironically Roosevelt succeeded only a little more than Hoover in ending the Depression. Despite tripling expenditures during Roosevelt's administration, (Document F) the American economy did not recover from the Depression until World War II.
The era of the Great Depression was by far the worst shape the United States had ever been in, both economically and physically. Franklin Roosevelt was elected in 1932 and began to bring relief with his New Deal. In his first 100 days as President, sixteen pieces of legislation were passed by Congress, the most to be passed in a short amount of time. Roosevelt was re-elected twice, and quickly gained the trust of the American people. Many of the New Deal policies helped the United States economy greatly, but some did not. One particularly contradictory act was the Agricultural Adjustment Act, which was later declared unconstitutional by Congress. Many things also stayed very consistent in the New Deal. For example, the Civilian Conservation Corps, and Social Security, since Americans were looking for any help they could get, these acts weren't seen as a detrimental at first. Overall, Roosevelt's New Deal was a success, but it also hit its stumbling points.
F.D.R. had great leadership qualities he passed many forms in congress that probably would have failed otherwise would have failed. Roosevelt was elected the most of any other president in U.S. history. That proves that he could sway large numbers of people to believing that his way of thinking was the best. In February 1937, he asked Congress to authorize him to appoint as many as six new justices to the Court. A great controversy swept Congress and the country. Many people denounced the proposal to "pack" the Court. Roosevelt's plan failed, but the gradual retirement of the older justices brought more liberal ones to the Supreme Court. Even while the debate was going on, the Court had modified its decisions. Thereafter it approved of most government regulation of the nation's economy. Roosevelt was like a mad inventor he would come up with a plain to fix a problem and if I didn't work he would keep trying to cerotic it in tell he made it work to help the country. Some people criticized Roosevelt saying he tried to do to much, and even went as far as saying that he overstepped his boundries as being president. But in my option Roosevelt was probably the most important part of helping our country out of the depression.
In the early 1930’s, America was facing an enormous depression that seemed impossible to escape and never ending. When FDR was elected, he was able to save the country with his positive thoughts and brilliant ideas. Not only was he capable of almost bringing the nation completely out of the Great Depression and rebuilding the economy, but was also able to lead the United States through a complex war such as World War Two. If Roosevelt’s intelligence were not present, not only the United States, but the entire world could have ended up differently. Without a doubt, Franklin Delano Roosevelt was one of the greatest president to ever be elected.
