Three things that made Frank important was that he was a brave and courageous fighter, he loved to help fellow Jews, and he saved more than 200 Jews. There are many heroic individuals in history that have shown greatness during a time of suffering ,as well as remorse when greatness is needed, but one individual stood out to me above them all. He served as a hero among all he knew and all who knew him. This individual, Simon Wiesenthal, deserves praise for his dedication to his heroic work tracking and prosecuting Nazi war criminals that caused thousands of Jews, Gypsies, Poles and other victims of the Holocaust to suffer and perish.
Joe Arpaio was born in Springfield, Massachusetts on June 13, 1932 (Wikipedia, 2014). He was raised by his father who was a grocery store owner, because his mom died during labor. Arpaio graduated from high school and when he was 18 he joined the Army. He served “in the Army from 1950 to 1954 in the “Medical Detachment Division” after he was discharged, moved to Washington DC became a police officer and later moved to Las Vegas” (MCSO, 1893). There he served as a police officer for six months before he was appointed as a special agent with the DEA. During his “25-year with the DEA he was advanced to the position of head of the DEA’s Arizona branch” (Wikipedia, 2014). In 1992, Arpaio successfully campaigned for the office of Maricopa County Sheriff. He was re-elected in “1996, 2000, 2004 and 2008, and is still currently the Sheriff at 77 years old” (Wikipedia, 2014). He married Eva in 1958, and they now have two children and four grandchildren (MCSO, 1893).
Some things are better left unsaid, and others are not. In his case, however, it was best to share his story. If these false accusations about Jews are still believed, then they will never be treated with respect. We now know today that these statements are false, thanks to survivors like Elie Wiesel. Frank has an interesting view on the way man has progressed morally. I think that he says that we don’t really know our morals until we have them truly questioned. In this he implies that the people who have strong morals, not only will stay true to them, but will survive. An example of this is Randy Bragg. Randy, on the day of nuclear fallout, stopped on the side of the road to help a woman. This shows that he has respect for the human race as a whole. The opposite of this was Edgar Quisenbury. Edgar valued nothing but money. In the end, the absence of money caused Edgar to become an example of Darwin’s “Only the strong” theory as he shot himself.
Frank is good at heart. Mr. Frank is a very selfless and caring man. He cares for everyone in the annex. When Mrs. Frank finds Mr. Van Daan stealing food, she wants him and Mrs. Van Daan to leave. However, Mr. Frank disagrees. “ You’re speaking in anger. You cannot mean what you are saying.” Mr. Frank doesn’t want the Van Daans to have to live out on the streets. He wants them to be safe in the annex, rather than in the streets where they could be caught. This shows that Mr. Frank is good at heart because he cared for the Van Daans. John Roth tells the story of a German journalist’s broken glasses in Fritz Gerlich’s Spectacles, in which Gerlich meets Hitler himself, and Hitler makes promises regarding his leadership that he does not keep. As a journalist, it was easy for Gerlich’s opposition of Hitler to be publicly displayed in the Munich Post. He exposed the Nazis and their motives for about 12 years (Roth 49). Gerlich was a German man that realized what the true purpose of “the Final Solution to the Jewish Question” was. He was not going to partake in the implementation of the answer of the Jewish Question, but instead presented to people through media that the Final Solution was in the wrong. Straying from the group did have its consequences, as Gerlich was detected by the Nazis when he published an article in July of 1932 (51). Gerlich was taken by storm troopers from his office, then beaten and sent to Dachau, a German concentration camp. He remained imprisoned there for more than a year, and his wife was informed shortly after that he was killed, receiving no written message but her husband’s broken spectacles. Gerlich’s spectacles could be interpreted as a metaphor for the time in his career he spent divulging the Nazis’ intentions;

Truth and facts should be relied on more in daily life, as many misunderstandings can be avoided with being truthful. We should hold ourselves accountable for staying truthful, however it is unreasonable to assume that everybody will follow suit. As such, it is incredibly important to search for the truth, evidence and fact within what we are told, holding not only ourselves accountable, but also those around us. If truthfulness were to become a commonplace habit, the world would certainly be a different place. Deborah Lipstadt and her team held Irving accountable for his lies. She stated “What we did is follow his footnotes back to his sources. And what did we find? Not in most cases, and not in the preponderance of cases, but in every single instance where he made some reference to the Holocaust, that his supposed evidence was distorted,half-truth, date-changed, sequence-changed, someone put at a meeting who wasn't there.”(TED Talk). In this case, they followed his evidence and were able to find the excessive and unreasonable holes within it.
Chris McCandless was a graduate from college whose dream was to go into the Alaskan wilderness and live there to get an overall experience of living off the land. McCandless wanted to experience how to hunt and gather everything that he needed to live in the Alaskan Wilderness. However was it a good idea when Mccandless went into the wild. Many people on his adventure tried to help him by giving him some equipment or buy him some because he wasn't prepared for his adventure. After McCandless’s death to this date people would say that McCandless is an idiot or stupid for not being prepared for the Alaskan wilderness.
Throughout the story, Frank’s character is brought out through his experiences, of which the most important are possibly the three murders he commits. I am not going to explore how he commits these terrible crimes, but rather why.
