Fostering is considered as a noble act which is often challenging, fulfilling and leaning a helping hand towards the society. Fostering is difficult, but also incredibly rewarding. There are many children in the community who need your help and support. By fostering a child, you can make a difference in their lives. There are many people who want to foster and make a difference through their act, however, they are not aware of what fostering actually entails. Most of the people are not aware of the allowance that fostering children can bring. There are many allowance and benefits for fostering a child in long term placements. The foster care allowance is meant to pay for taking care of the foster child and their needs. Child benefit: If you take the responsibility of fostering a child, you will be eligible for to claim child benefit for your own child, or other children that live with you. However, you cannot benefit for child or children you foster. Disability living allowance: A child who is under 16 and is disabled by some reason can still claim this disability living allowance. This disability living allowance is paid only to adult foster parents or carers. Income support: You may be able to claim income support while fostering a child, however, you will have to attend work-focused interview every 6 months to 3 years depending upon your situation. Income support is a non-taxable benefit, for people who work less than 16 hours a week but who aren’t required to sign on an unemployed such as foster carers. Many foster carers are unique in their position, so you can choose whether to be deemed as working and to claim working tax and not working and claim income
