There is no question that football is a dangerous sport and has caused numerous life changing injuries for players. No one can blame the sport; every person who has played football took the risks but participated anyways. Although they took the risks of the sport, is that enough reason to allow such a thing. I say yes, football players take and know the risks to their health and thus should be allowed to play the sport without any additional rules or equipment modifications. Football has been around for over a hundred years and is a part of American culture, and it should remain the way it is. For example it will increase your exercise time, build comradery between yourself and your peers, build teamwork, and it is just a fun thing to partake in. Football offers many rewards both long term and immediate that easily worth the small danger (Silverman). In the sport you must work as a team but have individual motivation that will translate into a good work ethics that can and will follow you for the rest of your life (Silverman). Some people may argue that football should be outlawed because of its dangerousness, but the positives outweigh the negatives. Football is not like a drug that will take life away from you. America is also the only country in the world that plays football, so to outlaw football would just be un-American and is an insult to our people and our history. As a nation we love danger, adrenaline and great physical feats. Football, which is dangerous, but still not as dangerous as it is cracked up to be, brings us these things. It is a great outlet for teens to partake in, it can make someone a leader, can allow someone to relieve energy, it makes you physically fit, and it is all monitored by coaches and referees. The football industry employs so many people, not even counting the players. Think if football was outlawed people in so many different industries would be out of work. For example, those in concessions, janitors, merchants, people who make the merchandise, food distributors, people in television, the people who are in construction that build or maintain stadiums and fields. Football produces so much money to our economy, clean money that is well earned. People are brought together by football, employed by football, find refuge in football. Some people like to argue that football has dangers that the players don’t know about, but the players took the risk and nearly all knew the risks, so that argument is invalid. Football is part of the American way of life and it would be wrong to outlaw it because of its danger factor,
