Athletes are considered role models because they are held to a higher standard. We put them on a pedestal due to their extreme talent and determination to find perfection (Denson, 2015). Given their abilities, platform to voice opinions and high salaries, athletes are role models. The million dollar salaries support this fact. We ordinary people aspire to reach their level of achievement. A professional athlete is at the pinnacle of his or her career (Denson, 2015). Children try to emulate every aspect of their favorite professional. If LeBron James isn 't a role model for using his talent to makes millions of dollars and be thought of as the greatest athlete today, then I 'm not sure what a role model is (Denson, 2015). These kids strive to do their very best, like the athletes they see in headlines. Professional athletes that work extremely hard and volunteer in their community serve as the best role models. In addition to basketball, Bruggeman is a senior member of Student Athlete Advisory Committee and a co-leader with Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He devotes anywhere from two to four hours a week between the two organizations (Student athletes aim to balance school and sports, 2015). Athletes become involved in their communities through their athletics. They represent all of the people that stand behind them in their communities. Community service is a way for athletes to give back to their communities and give thanks for everything they have done for them. Athletes can bring hope to a struggling community simply by helping out in their spare

Athletes in society are constantly in the media and are looked up to by the youth and fans alike. When athletes make bad decisions the issues are blown up for all to see. A role model is a person whose behavior can be emulated by others and especially younger people. Young kids look up to athletes more than anyone else and try to be just like them, wishing to follow in their footsteps when growing up. Not all athletes embrace being a role model in today’s society, even though the youth and many others follow their every move. Several professional athletes have gone from being role models to making bad decisions that often jeopardize their careers.
Many would disagree with me and say that high school sports actually have more positive benefits than negative benefits for students. For example a student in sports would be more active which would make them fitter and healthier. A student that in a team sport would make more friends which would improve their social
Sports are a popular pastime among all ages and types of people. People not only participate in them for fun, but also for money, physical fitness, rush of competition, and for many other personal reasons. Playing sports is especially common among young people in schools. Athletics are great and enjoyable for many reasons, but there can be a point where sports participation can go too far and become negative for children and adults. Sports specialization for young people is an increasing trend that results in sports having a negative impact on individuals and society.

In conclusion, young athletes should play sports because, youth sports can be a learning experience or it can be a health risk to the athletes. Participation in sports has proven to increase self-discipline and self-esteem, and can teach athletes to learn from their mistakes and move on (Issitt). Athletes playing team sports also develop the ability to work well with others and use teamwork in their everyday lives. Teammates form relationships that are strengthened over a common passion and goal. These relationships can last long after high school is over (Chen). These social skills translate into better communication used with an athlete’s family, peers, and in the community. Likewise, “A 2006 study in Maryland found that student athletes are 15 percent more likely than non athletes to be involved in their communities and to take the time for civic engagements, including participating in voting and volunteer activities” (Issitt). The same study also concluded that athletes are far more likely to be comfortable with public speaking than non-athletes. This study provides concrete evidence that high school sports can help to gain mental and social skills that will be used later in life
The side of athletes most commonly seen is when they are on the field. Athletes can be a very positive influence while on the playing field for many reasons. Teamwork is displayed in sports such as football, baseball, soccer, and hockey. It is where all the players working together and are all striving to reach the same goal. Anybody watching a game such as hockey or baseball can clearly see that the players must work together in both offense and defense to win the game.
For many high school students, participating in interscholastic sports is an important part of their school experience (Trottier, 2014). During their time in high school, these student-athletes are at the peak of their emotional and physical developmental years (Trottier, 2014). Thus, they may be at the stage of maturing where they can be most influenced and impressed of their growth of ethics and values (Trottier, 2014). Moreover, the development of life skills, such as social and mental maturity for a student-athlete can be fostered through the involvement in organized interscholastic athletics (Trottier, 2014). Through participating in organized sports, these student-athletes may gain a distinctive benefit in their ability
Humans are naturally competitive and through athletics this competitiveness can be released in a positive and focused way. Competition is a basic function of nature. Those that can best compete with their environment survive. Those who can’t compete die out. Competition is a powerful drive in all humans. We compete as groups, against our selves, and each other. Sports give us a channel to let this out in a safe way.
Many times people like to advocate winning and losing as the only factors to sports. Playing sports is an advantage for any student because there are things you learn that the classroom doesn’t offer. With the help of coaches and individual experience, students learn many lessons that help them build character and even do well in the classroom. Sports also give students another chance to excel and stay in school if they struggle with their education. The time that students occupy at practice is time away from trouble. When it comes to sports, winning is great, but learning and developing as a person is even better.
The benefits of sports range from physical, mental, and social. Exercise keeps people fit, develops healthy muscle tone, and reduces heart and lung problems (Oak, Manali). Sports studies have shown that “youth are motivated and engaged in ways that do not happen regularly in any other parts of their lives. Their experience of sports stands out from nearly all other activities, including socializing and schoolwork, in providing enjoyment where they are exerting concerted effort toward a goal” (Larson, Reed, and Sean Seepersad). People who play sports bond over a common interest. This opens up children to meeting new kids and socializing with many more. In Kindergarten, I played baseball. Even though I did not truly understand all the mechanics of the game, I met new friends and began to develop motor skills. This was very useful starting at an early age and pushed me to stay active throughout my life.
There are many benefits gained from participating in team sports. Team participation can build self esteem, promote social interaction and help one gain a sense of responsibility. Being involved in a team sport can also help you to attain personal fitness goals and maintain wellness. The time spent practicing with a team, will improve your skills and give you countless hours of enjoyment.
The main goals behind Sport Education are to help students become knowledgeable about different sports and activities to the point where they can participate in these outside of the classroom to stay active. Also it teaches execution and strategies and encourages competitiveness. It is important for kids to be competitive because they will have to be in life and it will teach the importance of winning and losing the right way. “Sports offer kids a great chance to work cooperatively toward a common goal. And working coope...
Participating in team sports is important not just for health reasons, but also for your healthy intellects and emotions. Playing sports that is in range of the player’s interest helps relieve stress and maintain their mental health. A team is mostly about unity within the team and with the coach, so no one can be selfish. Therefore playing in team sports develops good characteristics within oneself.
