It is after a good deal of self-evaluation and retrospection that I have decided to pursue my graduate studies in Food Science, eventually leading to a doctorate. I share the same view on food as does MK Gandhi in this quote, “There are people in the world so hungry, that God cannot appear to them except in the form of bread.” Coming from the land where food security still seems to be a mirage, I strongly believe that food recovery as well as food fortification will largely increase the accessibility of wholesome food to the masses. Evidently, science and technology has been a boon to the food system and has immense potential to mould a healthy human civilisation. I am certain that treading this path will allow me to reach my ultimate career goal of becoming a renowned Food Scientist.
Born in one of the major metropolitan cities of India, I did my schooling in Singapore. Since childhood I have had a strong inclination towards science and this is reflected in my academic achievements. Having secured the top ten percent status in my Primary School Leaving Examinations (PSLE), I was awarded a scholarship as well as an opportunity to learn German as a third language. I also completed my International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) with a distinction. Apart from academics, I was an active member of my secondary school’s National Police Cadet Corps (NPCC) unit and an adventure sport enthusiast. Without doubt, education in Singapore has helped me in becoming the well-balanced person I am today.
With a passion for the natural world and a penchant for technology, I felt that the fusion of biology and technology was a perfect choice. I decided to pursue my undergraduate course in Biotechnology engineering at the deem...

Always having envisioned the thoughts of an independent individual, I would like to be considered for teaching and research assistantship at Cornell University for the M S in Food Science program. This opportunity would be of substantial help for me as I would be able to ease my financial dependence on my parents.
Food science and technology has constantly engaged me since my undergraduate days and the prospect of continuing this passion of mine excites me. I believe that I have the capacity to make the commitment and accept the challenges that a career in research involves. I am confident that I have the requisite aptitude, exposure and motivation to make a meaningful contribution to my chosen field.

Schonwald, Josh. "Engineering the future of food: tomorrow's genetically modified food and farmed fish will be more sustainable and far healthier than much of what we eat today--if we can overcome our fears and embrace it. Here's how one foodie learned to stop worrying and love 'Frankenfood.'." The Futurist May-June 2012: 24+. General OneFile. Web. 29 Nov. 2013.
A healthy diet may help to prevent certain chronic long-term conditions such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes and may reduce the risk of developing certain cancers. Nutrition information offers a public health tool that could be used to promote informed consumer choice and aid consumption of a healthy diet. However millions of women chose to take dietary supplements to maintain good health, ease illnesses and defy ageing. Supplements are also used as a medication in women with decreased iron stores, because of menses and pregnancies (Anderson & Fitzgerald, 2010). The main aim of the research project is to explore the motivations surrounding the use of nutritional information among young women and relate this information to the choice to use supplements. This is important to women’s health and the topic of nutrition as a large amount of money is spent on both food and supplements. When nursing patients with a wide range of different conditions nutrition is the foundation of all treatment. It also reduces mortality, relapses and subsequent hospital admissions. The complexity of this subjective person and objective body aligned philosophically as interpretivism and positivism respectively reinforces the importance of both qualitative and quantitative approaches contributing to understanding of this (Gerrish and Lacey 2006). Nutrition is also crucial in health and social policy financially through reduction in readmissions which will reduce costs for practice as obesity and poor diet cost the NHS billions of pounds every year (Department Of Health, 2013).

America is a capitalist society. It should come to a surprise when we live like this daily. We work for profit. We’ll buy either for pleasure or to sell later for profit. It should come to no surprise that our food is made the same way because we are what we eat. We are capitalist that eat a capitalist meal. So we must question our politics. Is our government system to blame for accepting and encouraging monopolies?
Foods from Africa, which have impacted North American cuisine are numerous, and common in the everyday eating habits of Americans. In the 21st century, Americans take for granted the history of the food they eat, and the origins of the foods that are eaten today. In the early part of the history of the United States, people of European descent brought recipes from home and adapted their recipes to the ingredients which were available. The slave trade was directly responsible for what many Americans think of as American food, and those foods are traceable to Africa. Because slaves incorporated their own foods into the everyday lives of their masters, some of the unique foods from Africa and their history are not well known today. American
Processed foods make up 70% of the U.S. diet. Over the past century, a gradual revolution continues to increase the average consumer’s intake of highly processed food products. Everyday, new food-like substances are replacing real food on supermarket shelves and companies continue to fuel this epidemic by mislabeling products. Consumers must learn how to avoid processed food substances, which have been associated to numerous health concerns, and select healthier alternatives.

The enigma of life and the mystery of living organisms have always fascinated me. The persistent developments in the field of Biotechnology have opened up growth opportunities that are beneficial to the individual as well as the society. The perfect combination of theory and practical knowledge is required to succeed in this field. I want to be an element of innovation in this field, which is creating a better tomorrow for everyone. To do this, I need to prepare myself with mandatory knowledge that only a Masters' program can provide. I envision your university as the right stepping stone to pursue my dreams and achieve my career goals. Having been brought up in a strong and secure family, my parents have inculcated good values and principles in me. My parents’ support has always motivated me to reach my goals. Being from a family where both my parents' are highly educated and my father having done his Doctorate in Botany has always inspired me to pursue my ultimate goal of being a researcher, either in industry or in academia in this field. In the coming years, I visualize myself as a researcher or as a faculty member in one of the leading universities in the United States. I strongly believe that a Masters Degree in Biotechnology from your prestigious University will act as a crucial first step in the process of realizing my career objectives.
Today, there are over two hundred and fifty healthcare products for people with countless diseases, who only a few hundred years ago, would have died from the same condition. The race towards renewable energy has benefitted from biotechnology, as over fifty bio refineries are in the process of testing refining technologies to produce renewable fuels and reduce the emission of greenhouse gases. Millions off farmers are using modern biotechnology to increase the number of crops they gain, as well as protect their...
New opportunities and challenges of human health are presented by the application of biotechnology to food. Biotechnology helps improve the quality and nutrition of foods consumed by people, this helps their health. Foods produced through biotechnology has been around for more than 15 years but people are still debating about how safe the food is. Biotechnology still have to plays its role by increasing agricultural productivity, especially in light of climate change. I believe that biotechnology is still going to help better th nutritional value of food. It can also assist farmers to increase their productivity so that they can feed their families and many people across the globe. The whole world should be using the food biotechnology because it has the ability to change the world,it can be to end world hunger .
Food is taken for granted by many people in places like the Western World, especially in countries like the United States. There is no fear that the next meal will be an empty plate, nor is there reason to fear that the supply of food will disappear. The reason that there is no need to ration out supplies is that the food industry mass produces food to feed their ever growing population in factory farms. However, the public is kept generally unaware of what occurs inside these farms, which calls into question the integrity of the food production. While there is an acceptance of these farms due to the convenience they provide to the consumer, there are many negative consequences related to these slaughterhouses. The mass production of food from factory farming does not justify the negative affects and threat to the environment, to the health and security of animals, nor the violation of workers’ rights.
The myriad mysteries of science can be unraveled by the emerging technologies including Biotechnology. Science has always been my interest and forte thus, the choice of Biotechnology as my academic option was the ideal decision. I had prepared for the highly competitive entrance exam AIET to get admission into the integrated Masters Degree in Biotechnology and Bioinformatics at Dr. D.Y. Patil University and secured 87th all over India rank and was proud to gain admission to this venerated university. The academic curriculum has introduced me to amazing subjects like ‘Microbiology’, ‘Molecular Biology’, ‘Biochemistry’, ‘Genetics’ and ‘Industrial Biotechnology’. Although many seminal biological events have been explained in theory during the past century, the technology to harness their potential for benefiting humankind has only been possible during the past few decades. This is testament to the great improvements in biotechnologies and I am glad to be a part of this grand scientific experience.
We are all superheroes in our own way, so what is your super power? I can tell you what your kryptonite is. It is the food you are eating. Have you ever wondered why you feel tired or unfocused, have a lack of energy for completing simple tasks? It can all be traced back to your diet. All superheroes have one thing or another that weakens their super powers. Such as, Super Man and Kryptonite, or WonderWomen and the loss of her bracelets. Every real superhero is affected by their diets which can work against them similar to the loss of a superheroes power. We want to ensure that all students are aware of how to minimalize the effects of their diets by incorporating Super-foods into their diets to get the most health benefits.
