What definition of religion do you subscribe to? What are the required elements that a religion must consist of? Consider the fluidity of the concept of religion when you answer. Provide more than two specific examples from different religious traditions.

In my opinion, religion is a human experience. There are no other life forms on planet earth that exhibit religious behaviors such as praying, mourning the dead, etc. Therefore, I believe religion is an activity performed by human beings. Since humans can use reason, the need to answer the unknown is a natural function of civilized behavior. This is evident when we see how religions have developed throughout history. From what we know from ancient civilizations, there are many examples of how humans participated in worshiping the supernatural. The Paleolithic religion, which existed about 30,000 years ago showed the first evidence of religious activity through stone carvings and graves found inside caves. …show more content…

First, I believe that every religion must have some concept of a god. I don’t think it matters what form that concept is in, but there must be something or someone that is at the beginning of all existence. This notion is the source of existence and the source of all things to come. This means of perspective can be used for direction, motivation, and purpose for good intentions or bad. Next, the religion must have some tenants that must be adhered to be in accordance it.
