Flipped Classroom

The classroom environment is not one that has drastically changed until recently. Students come into school, listen to a lecture, laboriously take notes, then going back home only to do more work. But, what if it didn’t have to be this way? What if students were approaching a shift in how schools will be run? The increased availability of personal devices and the negative effects of standardized testing will push educators in a new direction for new generations of students. By 2035, American high schools will likely follow many emerging classroom trends, especially increased use of new technology and the “flipped classroom” model, along with decreasing the amount of focus on standardized testing.

For example, the “flipped classroom” style of teaching involves students learning their coursework through at-home lecture videos or audio sessions, and instead of homework and projects, students complete all of their work in class. This minimizes the amount of time at home students have to spend doing school-related activities and allows the student and allows students to come into class prepared for a more personal, hands-on, and involved lesson that can often be more helpful than a typical class period. By increasing the amount of students that have personal devices, the flipped classroom model can become more commonplace in American schools, as each student can learn the required information at home, when they want, and at their own pace, since their device can be accessed at any time and place. Furthermore, new technology allows for more in-depth lessons, especially in science fields. Online simulations involving materials that may be too expensive or difficult to acquire for a high school lab let students be more exposed to advanced topics, such as anatomy or forensics, on a level that would otherwise be unavailable. One example of this would be online dissection simulations, where a student can interact with a digital version of the lab activity. This way of teaching prepares students for future lessons and experiences. Since new technology will continue to improve the learning experience, more future schools will provide students with their own
