Film Maker The movie was directed by Mark Herman, but the book was written by an Irish novelist John Boyne. The movie was filmed in Budapest, Hungary. Mark Herman is an English filmmaker from Bridlington, United Kingdom. He was best known for screenwriting and directing The Boy in the Striped Pajamas.
Purpose of the Film In the beginning portion of the film it portrays the innocence of the two boys Bruno and Schmuel. The purpose of the film is it uncovers the detestation of a Nazi inhumane imprisonment through the eyes of an innocent German kid. All through the film, the juxtaposition of youth guiltlessness with the mind boggling monstrosities submitted by the Nazis amid Word War II encourages strong reflection on the divisions made by bigotry

He lives with his 12 year-old sister, is mother, and his father who is an army commandant. The story begins in Germany in the 1940s, Bruno is coming home with his friends while imitating the aircraft noises. When he arrives home his parents tell him they need to move to the countryside for his father’s work. The father explains the move as “for the country.” After his family move he discovers a concentration camp however think its a farm outside his bedroom window. He asks his mom if he can make friends with the kids at the farm and why they wear pajamas. Bruno sneaks off towards the “farm” and he notices it is cutoff from by barbed wired fences. He meets another 8 year-old boy named Schmuel. As the story goes on the the two boys start a secret friendship hidden from the camp, and Bruno’s parents. Bruno brings food and board games to play with Schmuel and they form a bond. Until one day Bruno’s father tells Bruno and Gretel that their mother suggested living with a relative for the time being for their safety. On the day Bruno was supposed to leave he learns that Schmuel’s father is missing and decides to help him look for his father. Schmuel gives Bruno and pair of striped uniform and they are marched into a chamber. The nazi soldier tells the Jews to strip their clothes off for a “shower.” The movie ends with Bruno’s parents frantically searching for Bruno only to find out that Bruno died

The movie starts out in a Jewish home, where a Jewish family is celebrating the Sabbath. Candles are lit while songs are sung, and when the Jews leave the house, the candles slowly burn out. The German forces have just defeated the Polish, and now the Jews are being forced out of their homes. They are reporting to the train station where they register their names, and then are shipped off to Krakow. In Krakow the Jews are gathered together in the ghetto where they are forced to live in overcrowded conditions. The Judenrat, a Jewish council, organizes the Jews into working groups according to their abilities. Oskar Schindler, a German business man, visits the ghetto to talk to Itzhak Stern, a Jew who owns a pot-making factory. Oskar and Itzhak make a deal in which Schindler will take over the factory but Stern will be the plant manager. The Jews are once again sorted according to their education and working ability, those who cannot work are sent to extermination camps while some of those who are able to, reported to Schindler’s factory. The Nazi’s decide that all of the Jews should be confined in forced labor camps. Schindler, who is now starting to feel some empathy and responsibility towards his workers, volunteers to confine his workers in his factory.
Other people in Bruno’s class were scared of him and though being scared they respected him. Because he had this kind of scared respect for him he was voted class president and was left alone. People stopped seeing him at school for a while and soon found out that his dad died. He was killed in the mafia, which affected him strongly. When he came back no one said anything and at this time he really need some one to talk too. But no one did because they were scare of him. The only person that came was the narrator was the only person who even came up to him and he did not even let her say it. But she could tell that he really enjoy her even coming up to him to attempt to talk to him.
The audience’s focus was meant to be on the experience and life of a fun-loving German boy named Bruno. Surrounding this eight-year-old boy were conspicuous Nazi influences. Bruno is just an example of a young child among many others oblivious of buildings draped in flags, and Jewish civilians who are seen briefly being forced out of homes and into loading trucks.... ... middle of paper ...
Bruno is a 9 year old boy growing up in a loving, but typically authoritarian German family in the 1930?s. His father is a senior military officer who was appointed Commandant of Auschwitz? a promotion that requires upheaval from their comfortable home in Berlin to an austere home in the Polish countryside. The story explores Bruno?s difficulty in accepting and adapting to this change - especially the loss of his friends and grandparents. Boyne gives personality and family to the sort of person who today is generally demonised by western writings - the people who administered and controlled the death camps in which over 6 million Jews, Gypsies, homosexuals, and others were deemed to be grossly inferior by Hitler and his cohorts.
Bruno, an eight year old boy at the time of the war, is completely oblivious to the atrocities of the war around him - even with a father who is a Nazi commandant. The title of the book is evidence to this - Bruno perceives the concentration camp uniforms as "striped pajamas." Further evidence is the misnomers "the Fury," (the Furher) and "Out-With" (Auschwitz). Bruno and Shmuel, the boy he meets from Auschwitz, share a great deal in common but perhaps what is most striking is the childhood innocence which characterizes both boys. Bruno is unaware that his father is a Nazi commandant and that his home is on ther periphery of Auschwitz. Shmuel, imprisoned in the camp, seems not to understand the severity of his situation. When his father goes missing, Shmuel does not understand that he has gone to the gas chamber.
An excellent book night written by Elie Wiesel and the great movie the boy in the stripped pyjamas directed by Mark Herman portrayed many themes that are in common. The book Night is about the Jews who were forced to let go of their house and belongings and taken to the concentration camps and tortured by the Germans. The movie, the boy in the stripped pyjamas, is about two eight year old boys, Bruno and Shmuel and their friendship, and how their friendship took shape in different forms such as support and hope. Unfortunately, they are not supposed to be friends because Bruno is the son of the German officer, who is responsible for giving the officers the command. Shmuel was a Jew who had to suffer from what Bruno’s father had commanded and decided to do with the Jews.
Yet, one is more aware about what is taking place at these concentration camps than the other. Shmuel is dehumanized at a young age in the concentration camp. He becomes nothing but a walking corpse. While being treated like an animal, Shmuel is beaten and starved constantly. They stripped him away from his clothes and put him into a striped uniform that Bruno mistakens as pajamas. He is detached from his family, friends, and home. Bruno is under the impression that he has got it hard. Yet, do any of us actually know what it’s like to “have it hard?” Bruno was separated from his friends and home in Berlin. Although he left behind most of his childhood, Bruno stayed with his family and lived in a lovely house. He had maids and servants. Bruno was well fed and taken care of properly. One day, Bruno snuck out where he wasn’t supposed to go. He loved adventures and exploring new things. He came across a very large fence that seemed to be for animals. On the floor of the other side of the fence Bruno saw Shmuel. They talked and eventually became friends. Bruno constantly asked about the “pajamas” Shmuel and the others had to were. Bruno thought it was part of a game they played since the uniforms had numbers on them. Shmuel tried to explain that it wasn’t a game, but Bruno was ignorant about the situation. Bruno didn’t even know that his father was a Nazi soldier. He knew his father’s job was very important because that is what his parents
The spectacle and melody in the movie are the “pleasurable accessories of Tragedy” in that, despite their minor roles, they are two parts of the whole in a tragedy (72). The thought and diction behind a character’s lines or lack thereof carry messages of significance to carry out the plot and convey the morals behind its actions to the audience. The characters of a tragedy are defined by the actions they take and act as a medium to convey their moral purpose in the plot. Finally, the plot must flow from its beginning to its end with a unified, cohesive series of events while revealing peripeteia and discoveries as the tragedy draws closer to its conclusion. In the end, Bruno, a boy stuck in-between his family and their country’s beliefs and his friendship with Shmuel, the Jew Bruno was supposed to be brought up to hate, would eventually lead to his untimely death whilst not understanding the gravity of the situation surrounding Nazi Germany during the World

This movie contains five messages: people shouldn’t be judgmental because being open-minded allows people to know others, having compassion for a person can help people change their views in life, being a racist can only create hate, having the power of the human will/goodness to benefit humanity will cause a person to succeed at any cost and becoming educated helps bring out the intelligence of people.
Bruno is irritated and shocked when he’s told they’re moving from Berlin but being a very naive boy doesn’t understand why their family has to leave. The story follows on as Bruno sets out from his house in Auschwitz to explore and finds a boy the same age as him sitting on the ground, on the other side of a fence. His name is Shmuel, a Jewish boy held captive in a concentration camp, but Bruno believes the camp is just a farm. Their friendship cements but is separated by a barbed wire.
