“I have realized that fighting for women’s rights has too often become synonyms with man-hating. If there is one thing I know for certain, it is that this has to stop”. This quote in the words of Emma Watson describes generations of both men and women’s point of view on feminism. The misunderstanding is so popular that even many women refuse to acknowledge the benefits of having feminism and living in a time where many accept it. While feminism is accepted and embraced by countless number of people, prejudice based on gender has not ended. A large sum of the world believe that women already have the same rights as men do or that they don't need any more “equality”. This is an actual quote said by Pat Robertson, which shows the mentality of supremacist men who come to unreasonable conclusions to stay superior. The main reason equality doesn't exist is because of people’s desire to constantly have dominance and because of their egotistical characteristics. This is the main reason people choose to come up with condescending comments, just so their ego isn’t ruined. People who argue that women already have equal rights refuse to see the actual problems. The biggest argument for people who support the idea that women are treated equal say they have the same rights as men. However, study shows that women earn about 20% less money than a man with the exact same job. Also, the pay is worse as diversity increases. To add on, a woman in a high position is harassed and is said to be unfit for that role just because she is a women. People in a daily basis judge a woman for doing something because either she is not supposed to do that or because she shouldn’t. How can we come to the conclusion that a woman has equality when people believe and promote the idea of women being submissive to a man. Around the world there are women who are not allowed to educate themselves or be able to express themselves. So how can that be determined as “equal”? However, actions and even laws prove that we don't have equality at all. In Saudi Arabia, women are ripped away from a basic right that all people should have; the right to drive. Divorce laws, in many country favor men, for instance, in Lebanon, battered women cannot file for divorce on the basis of abuse without a testimony from an eyewitness. Even a medical confirmation is simply not good enough to allow a woman to leave her abusive husband. In many countries, education is one of the main rights women don't receive. In the words of a Nobel Peace prizewinner, “I said to myself, Malala, you must be brave. You must not be afraid of anyone. You are only trying to get an education. You are not committing a crime.” Malala Yousafzai was shot trying to get girls the right to educate in Pakistan, however she id not stop there as after she healed she continues to fight for women’s rights. This is not a new problem as in many countries all over the world; girls are not allowed to receive an education. Custody rights are also biased as in many countries the father automatically has custody of the child without looking into any details.
