Disgrace from Manzanar Farewell to Manzanar is a non-fiction novel co-written by Jeanne Wakatsuki Houston and James D. Houston. This book is about Jeanne’s experience with the Japanese internment camp she was sent to during WWII for being a Japanese-American. Jeanne’s whole family was sent to camp Manzanar after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Jeanne’s father, Papa, was a very traditional, prideful, Japanese man with many failures in his life. It was much easier for Papa to come to terms with his family’s descent from the samurai class than it was to do so with his imprisonment at Manzanar.
