Being involved into a extracurricular activity can make it harder for some students. Some students won't have the time for an extra class or have other things they are involved in after school. If I get slammed with tons of homework I will feel pressured and stressed on the loads of things I still need to get done. If the principal was thinking about making all students take an extracurricular class I would disagree.
One issue that some students will have is transportation. Students will be waiting too long if some parents have to work late or work far. The teachers will have to wait with the students for the parents to come pick them up. If students forget to arrange a ride beforehand, then there will be a big line in the office of students trying to find a ride. It will make it difficult and chaotic in the office. When leaving the school there will be so many cars and students won't be able to find their parents. There will be a long line at the stoplight to get out of the road and make it more likely for someone to get into an accident.

If students have a lot of homework and get home around 5:30, it will make it harder for some students to complete homework on time. If they have a big test the next day they will need to study really hard but it will be very late. Students will also try to stay up late to get homework done. The repercussion is that they will be extremely tired the next day and unfocused. Students will also be stressed out over what they need to complete and what still needs to be done. They will have no breaks and will and will feel anxious, stressed and
When in the course of human events, students should be entering school a little bit later than the usual. This will give the student more sleep time which then will allow the student to think better when in school. This will also help a student be fully awake and not be sleeping in class. Students will pay more attention and will be ready to learn. Waking up early and going to school early makes a student be sleepy in class. We the students should be getting a later start in school.
Students may need to nap to compensate for energy expended throughout the day. However, if schools were to start later, adolescents would not have to nap, allowing for a larger window of time to spend with their families after school, even with a later start time. Another opposing argument is that students would have less time to participate in extracurricular activities. However, this issue can be resolved by making practices for sports and club meetings shorter and more frequent to accommodate the schedule variation. Overall, the benefits of later start times far outweigh the drawbacks.
One drawback to later start times is the fact that school would end later. Since schools that start later still have the same number of hours in a day, they would in turn end later in the afternoon. This can cause problems for after school activities, and also homework after school. Some students families depend on the money earned from working after school jobs. If the school they were attending got out later, they would have less time after school to work these jobs, so they would be unable to make the money they need to support their families (“Eight Major Obstacles to Delaying School Start Times”). In addition, any after school clubs or activities would end later after school, causing those involved to stay up later at
To begin with, students have more time in class. Since there is more time, students can finish homework and other assignments during school hours. After a long day of work and assignments, I feel that coming home and doing more
Rushing to complete an assignment will not get them anywhere. Students do not realize that rushing to finish their homework or to finish a task will put so much stress on themselves. Being stressed out does not feel good and students procrastinating will most likely be stressed out over their work. Students also may not get a lot of sleep because they waited until the last minute to start working on their work. Sleep is a very important thing to any human being, because if students do not get enough sleep then they will be falling asleep in class and not paying
Pushing back school hours helps a student get more sleep therefore doing better in school. Say a student just woke up and they're late to school, with little sleep. In their first class they have a test and because they’re tired paying attention is hard. “ new research suggests a letter high school starts have widespread benefits”(Hoofman 12). This study shows that research has been done showing us we
According to Jama Network, when a high school in Rhode Island changed the school start time to 8:30 rather than 8:00, there was a 38.3% increase in getting eight or more hours of sleep every night. Grades and attendance were also among the improvements shown in students. Teachers were also showing a better amount of sleep when the schools began a later start time. (Jama Network). These improvements can help shape a student’s future. Without a change in a school’s start time, middle school and high school students tend to have poor sleep patterns and bad grades. Therefore, changing the school start times to an hour later in middle schools and high schools across the world would provide many benefits to students.
Additionally, many high school and college students rely on the money that they earn from working summer jobs to pay for their education and other expenses. Although these may seem like major problems, they would actually have a very minimal effect on students. Scheduling more events and activities in the evenings would not significantly increase the stress levels of students because they would be learning material at a faster rate due to the fact that less time would be wasted on review and, as a result, they would not need to complete as much homework and would have more free time after school (Ballinger, 6). Teachers could further reduce the amount of homework assigned on days when school is in session by giving students assignments to complete over breaks. This would also allow students after-school time to work throughout the year instead of just during the summer, and students could work full-time during their weeks off of school.
This, in the end, causes people to lose interest in schools and have a higher risk at failing. In this way, not only are extracurricular activities unnecessary, but they can also be very
...ion is important. However extracurricular activities are important as well. School teaches students the curriculum they will need to further their education in college and as they get a job, but extracurricular activities teach a person how to socialize and work with all kinds of different people. Along with all of the lessons it teaches above extracurricular activities give students something better to do than sit home and watch television all day. Society is constantly searching for ways to keep students out of trouble with drugs and alcohol. “Many suggest that participation in extracurricular activities can be a major deterrent from taking part in such perilous activities.”(Baker) I believe extracurricular activities can help troubled students do better in school, have a better attitude, and learn those important lessons that they will use the rest of their life.
This would make it impossible for these students to get to school in the morning. Which leads to a failure within the certain class from which parents do not wish to have or witness. It is important to ensure all students are able to get to the school building in a safe and timely
When they can’t drive, this inhibits their ability to get home safely and efficiently. More than 7.6 million students played school sports in the 2010-2011 sports seasons, and 1 and 4 students work. Other students participate in musical activities, hobbies, lessons, and more. With all of these activities, it is imperative that students should get home safely and easily. Think about this: if students are forced to wait for a ride after extracurricular activities or jobs, they may not have sufficient time to complete their drivers’ education homework, thus impairing their potential to obtain safe driving
While most evidence in the literature proves that extra curricular activities improve academic performances, Solanco School District has no program supporting or promoting the link between the two. This study will examine the effects of participation in extra curricular activities on student academic performance at Solanco High School.
