Why Did the World Plunge Into World War II?
The world plunged into World War II in 1939, from the unsettlement between countries. Different countries had different ideas about world affairs. Some countries preferred appeasement and other countries preferred collective securities to solve problems such as the turmoil in Germany. According to the circumstances of Europe during 1939, from economic depression and unsettlement between countries, collective security was the best answer. Appeasement was attempted, but it turned out to be a failure.
Germany, Hitler in specific, was one of the leading reasons as to why the world plunged into World War II. Hitler was allowed to take control over Czechoslovakia by Britain, France, and Italy to keep him

In order to stop the fighting between countries, Europe needed to put some actions into effect because appeasement was not working. Germany proved that by disregarding the Versailles Treaty. According to Hitler after disregarding the Versailles Treaty, “I look upon this day as marking the close of the struggle for German equality status…the path is now clear for Germany’s return to European collective cooperation” (Document 3, 1936) This quote explains a vast difference between Hitler’s and the other European countries' views. With Hitler’s affirmation to make Germany equal and even more powerful than the other European countries, the other European countries would have to set up collective security because they would have very little insight on what Hitler would be planning; leading to more destruction. Now, Europe would be more prepared if Hitler decided to attack. A quote from Winston Churchill explaining why collective security is the right answer is, “…I think all of the opportunities to stop the growth of Nazi power which have been thrown away. The responsibility must rest with those who have control of our political affairs. They neither prevented Germany from rearming, nor did they rearm us in time…Thus they left us in the hour of trial without a strong national defense or system of international security” (Churchill). That quote explains how collective security is the best answer to stop war and the destruction Hitler is
Autonomy and Responsibility: Why the United States Entered World War II World War II was an exceptional war for the United States. The United States emerged from the war as a world superpower and protector of all other nations. There were many reasons why the United States entered World War II, however President Franklin Roosevelt was in some way directly connected to every reason. Roosevelt wanted to enter World War II as soon as it started for political and economic needs. However, the American people did not want to enter in another war, such as World War I, that costs so many lives and money.
Hitler made a number of Military actions that can be attributed to him being the major cause of World War Two. The two main actions are the rearmament of Germany and the assistance his country provided in the Spanish Civil War. Hitler secretly began the rearmament of the German armed forced in 1932, this was in direct violation of The Treaty of Versailles. “Navy: 30 warships (1932) - 95 (1939) Air Force: 36 Aircraft (1932) - 8,250 (1939) Soldiers: 100,000 men (1932) - 950,000 (1939)” These statistics show a dramatic increase in the military power that Germany had. The increase in strength gave Hitler more confidence and power over other countries most importantly Germany’s smaller neighbours. “Hitler felt confident enough to publicly announce that there would be compulsory military conscription in Nazi Germany and that the army would be increased to 550,000 men.” The reintroductio...
Another factor in causing World War II was the Wall Street Crash of 1929 resulting in a 2-year economic depression all over the world. Not only did these cause countries such as Britain and France to take a less active foreign policy, but also it destroyed the newly found prosperity in Germany and made many people jobless. This led to Hitler
World War Two was the most devastating conflict in the history of humanity. It crippled many nations and caused millions of people to die. One of the major causes of this disastrous war was the Treaty of Versailles which ended the First World War. This treaty was destructive towards the Germans. Germany had to pay large amounts of reparations to the Allied nations at the end of World War One resulting in a Great Depression in Germany. Additionally, the Treaty of Versailles’ war guilt clause forced Germans to admit full responsibility for starting the war. Furthermore, to gain the support of the German populace, Adolf Hitler adopted an effective propaganda campaign. Adolf Hitler employed a successful propaganda campaign to gain the support of the German people combined with the Treaty of Versailles harsh economic and political sanctions ignited World War Two.
Other countries mainly Britain responded to Hitler’s actions with appeasement and by not stopping him early on with collective security it directly caused World War Two. Collective Security is when multiple countries work together to strengthen a country in need. Based off of document 6 Winston Churchill suggested that Britain, France, and other nations should come together and protect Czechoslovakia from Hitler to stop the growth of Nazi power. Collective Security could have prevented Czechoslovakia from coming into German control. While in accordance with document 9 nobody could openly oppose Hitler’s massive forces he had accumulated.
The appeasement was an unnecessary course of action as due to the weakness it imposed on the Allies, as it gave Hitler the impression they were too morally weak to oppose him. This advocated the possibility of war as the appeasement allowed Hitler to challenge the Versailles settlement with bold initiatives: withdrawing from the League of Nations (1933), canceling war debt payments (1933), beginning a program of public rearmament (1935), and moving troops into the demilitarized German Rhineland (1936). By 1931 Britain’s vengeful mood of 1919 had shifted to one of guilt for the excesses done to punish Germany. That sentiment, coupled with a loathing and fear of a repeat of the “Butcher’s Bill” of World War I, drove British politicians to the mistaken belief that “righting” the wrongs of Versailles would ameliorate the situation and restore calm. However, when Hitler reoc-cupied the Rhineland in defiance of the treaties of Versailles and Locarno (1925). The Germans could not as yet have resisted any British and French military response, but Britain did nothing and France, which mobilized 150,000 troops behind the Maginot Line, would do nothing more without British support. Hitler later confessed that if the French army had advanced into the Rhineland in response to his actions, the Germans would have had to withdraw as they were incapable of mounting real
World War II was not only started by Adolf Hitler and Germany, but had a lot to do with the humiliation that Germany felt when the terms of the Treaty of Versailles were laid down. The harsh terms of the Treaty of Versailles may be indirectly related to the cause of World War II, but nonetheless was a huge factor in starting the war.
The Policy of Appeasement as the Most Important Reason for the Outbreak of the Second World War
World War II happened for many reasons, which there is most likely no way anyone could have stopped it from eventually happening. By using appeasement in the beginning, were just giving Hitler exactly what he wanted which was not good at all.But by Collective Security, Europe finally did what was needed to be done to gain back the power that they had just given away.Collective Security is more effective response to aggression because it doesn't let the aggressor get what he wants and to gain too much power over everyone.
The road to World War II was built by several different causes. Under Adolf Hitler and the Nazis, Germany had desire to expand and dominate over most of Europe. This expansionism could be seen in Germany’s allies too. Japan set its eyes on China, and Italy set its eyes on Northern Africa. Hitler also ignored many of the agreements under the Treaty of Versailles, and begun breaking the treaty more and more up until the start of World War II. Unfortunately he couldn’t be stopped, a policy of “Appeasement” from the League of Nations allowed Germany to build an army and begin the annexation of its European neighbors. This policy of appeasement was accompany by the belief that collective security would pull through. If all the nations banded together and declared collective security, no other country would dare attack. Unfortunately when Germany and her allies did attack, collective security proved useless. Ultimately the policies of appeasement, the belief that collective security would work, and the over aggression of the Axis forces would lead to the start of World War II.
Since most people deemed Hitler’s excuse for violating the Treaty of Versailles justifiable, and because of Britain and France’s policy of appeasement for peace, Hitler and his military forces took full advantage of the situation and kept conquering land, especially after the Munich Conference in 1938. At the Munich Conference, Britain and France gave Germany ful...
Everyone was trying to avoid going to war by favoring a policy of appeasement, which means that they decided to ignore what Hitler was doing in Germany. However, they didn’t realize until later that appeasement was not the best idea, that it was actually a long-term cause for the war. An example of this was when Hitler wanted to acquire some land in Czechoslovakia, so Britain, France, and Italy met with Hitler, in Munich, to come up with an agreement. The agreement that they produced promised peace to Europe and that there wouldn’t be a European war as long as Hitler was given the land (Doc. 4). Another example of why people believed appeasement was the best thing to do was in a speech by British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain, to parliament. Chamberlain explained that the agreement made in Munich was a good thing because it promises peace and many people believed that Germany had not done anything worth going to war over. They believed that they should fight if it was a major issue (Doc. 5). A. J. P. Taylor, a British historian, also agrees that appeasement was a good thing. He explains why people believed the ignoring what was Happening in Germany was the logical thing to do. He says that the people were afraid the by defeating Germany, a Russian domination of Europe could result. He also points out that Hitler had a large following at this time and trying to stop him
World War II was a worldwide conflict that included the majority of the nations on Earth. It was battled ashore, noticeable all around, and on the oceans; fights were battled on three continents and on three oceans. The cause for World War II were seen at the conclusion of World War I. The failure of the First World War, Germany, needed to pay a precarious cost by incapacitating itself and paying a lot of cash to the victors. The overall Great Depression that hit in the 1930s resulted to desperation and outrage in Germany. This air created the man who drove Germany to recuperation and into World War II: Adolf Hitler.
WWII began in 1939 it was the bloodiest war in world history. It was called ‘the next Great War’. It was the Allies vs. the Axis Powers. Sixty- one nations were involved in the war, 1.7 billion people were involved in some way. Fifty-nine million people lost their lives in WWII. Over Thirty- seven people got wounded. The U.S. became involved in the war because Japan bombed Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941 and the Holocaust was going on in 1939. The war lasted 6 years starting from 1939-1945. The U.S. was heisting to enter WWII.
