Struggles in the East Has a bully ever thought that their victim is having a hard life already. In The Outsiders, there are two groups that struggle. The greasers are poor people who live on the East side of town. The Socs are rich people who live on the West side of town. The greasers struggle more than the Socs because they are poor, get jumped, uneducated. The greasers struggle in many things, and being poor is one of them. In the story, it says, “We’re poorer than the Socs and the middle class.” (Hinton 3) The way greasers are mentioned in the book shows why only a few of them have cars. Some greasers even rob from stores or have jobs at a young age to survive with what they need. There is a man name Darry who is described by Ponyboy,
