The only reason humanity is where it is now is because of the ability for humans to know when and where sacrifices must be made. From having to cut off an arm to escape from an avalanche, to having to spend extra time doing homework that would be better spent playing video games, sacrifices have always been made to achieve better and more rewarding goals. There are two kinds of sacrifices that are made. Those that one must make by themself and those that other’s are forced to make in order to achieve that end goal. Once again they won’t always be large ones, maybe just my mom taking a day off of work to take me to a tournament in Minnesota. Whatever it is, most people cannot do anything on their own without making sacrifices, especially if they want to do something that goes above and beyond. For example, Lady Macbeth wants to gain a power that Macbeth didn’t have earlier. This power comes with more than a few sacrifices from everybody in the book. She was exactly as anybody would expect, right up until the 45th line of knowing her: “The raven himself is hoarse / That croaks the fatal entrance of Duncan,” (I.v.45-46). After that, she immediately started to represent the bloodshed and evil that was going to be produced in the play. Only 45 lines and and Lady Macbeth isn’t looking like that kind and gentle hostess anymore. It’s because she sees an opportunity for Macbeth to become the king of Scotland, and consequently for her to become the queen. Shakespeare lets the theme start to take off when she realizes this. Her mind starts to race with the possibilities, and how to get rid of Duncan so Macbeth can rule Scotland. What ends up happening though is that Lady Macbeth ends up sacrificing herself to “evil spirits” and sacrificing a lot of personal things that most people would not be willing to give
