Discrimination is still a huge factor in our society and is present in our daily lives. In school females are told to cover up, not because a dress is too shirt, a shirt is too revealing but because it is a distracting for the males. In most High school cases, girls are subjected to unfair treatment. Many have been suspended for wearing ripped jeans, "Short" dresses for prom, tank/spaghetti strap shirts and for African American teens for their hair. While males are allowed to wear ripped jeans, shorts, tanks tops and can sometimes walk around topless. These incidents relating to either how a female is dressed or if a black teen wants to be natural and get punish for being themselves astonishes me. People of color are discriminated because of the stereotypes that surrounds them daily. Women are most times seem as weaker than men, too emotional and can be emotional unstable. Women are stereotyped to quit their jobs and have kids and that can contribute to the idea that they shouldn 't be working and so they are given a lower pay. Women can be seen vindictive and nasty when expresses a problem and can be ridicule for having the same persistent and assertive trait that a man has that is seen as good. Furthermore, Women are judged for job based on their looks if a male is hiring. A very qualified, less attractive female will be second to under qualified and more attractive female and female often have to keep up their appearance while men just need to smell good and have neat hair and clothes. Black females in the work environment has it hard especially because of the stereotype that we are loud, mean , obnoxious and uneducated. Therefore, because of these untrue rumors Black females are less likely to get a job that they are more than qualified for. However, in order for us as a people to overcome these cracks in our supposedly perfect vase we must stop the stereotypes. Martin Luther King once said "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character" and why can 't we apply that to how we view a person. We shouldn 't let our judgement about a person cloud the way they are as person. We shouldn 't let stereotypes define a person work ethic and how we choose a person to be our husband/wife. We should determine a person on how they work, their strengths , their grit and how they can excel. This change of discrimination can not be easily fixed but it takes an individual to be open-mind instead of close-minded like those who listen to these stereotypes.
