Evaluating Treatment Efficacy
In order to evaluate the efficacy of each goal and intervention, an observable goal statement would be utilized. I would reflect on the observable goal throughout the duration of the therapeutic process. For example, if the goal is set that Jackson will attend school daily for the next 30 days unless it is and excused absence, it would be my role to obtain Jackson’s school attendance records to confirm compliance and efficacy of the goal setting.
Moreover, each goal will also have a timeline for execution that is measurable. For example, if the goal is set to for Sonia and Jackson to establish a home chore schedule. The intricacies of the goal would include the expectation in terms of timing. In this example, we could have a chore schedule set by a date and we could evaluate whether it was rolled out and how often it was followed during our sessions.

Jackson’s school behaviors are extremely challenging for the school system to manage. As a result, the school system has been extremely apprehensive of educating Jackson. Despite the apparent behavioral concerns the school justly has with Jackson, it is his right to be educated. I will advocate for Jackson’s rights to be upheld and for the school department to fund an alternative school setting or provide tutoring. Furthermore, Jackson is biracial, issues of race and culture will be acknowledge and valued.
Mistrust is a critical obstacle for the therapist to overcome especially for those who have been oppressed, marginalized, or discriminated against. As a therapist, I would adhere to The National Association of Social Workers (NASW) code of ethics and create a therapeutic environment that respects the family and values them as the experts of their own lives.
