The movie “Doubt” showcased two major characters a Priest who seem fun loving and modern. Then there was a strict nun, Sister Aloysius senior nun. She appears to meddle in every aspect of everyone’s life. The Priest a Father Flynn begins the movie with a sermon about doubt. At this point in the movie one may assume the priest has doubt about the nun. The more the movie plays, viewers realize this is not the case. The movie takes a horrible turn and Sister Aloysius turns out to be the movie’s protagonist. Father Flynn the antagonist who had placed doubt in viewers. Sister Aloysius has her doubts about Father Flynn. She wonders if the other nuns know anything and ask them to watch out for anything suspicious.
Soon after her talk with the nuns Sister James, sees Father Flynn do something quite strange. She reports to Sister Aloysius that Father Flynn placed a t-shirt in the locker of a young man name Donald. The young nun reports Father Flynn gives him special treatment. Sister Aloysius' felt certain that her suspicions have come true. Why does the priest have a t-shirt from a little boy and why is he putting it in his locker? Why, did he call Donald to his office?

She was certain for so long now doubt. Viewers should understand her doubt is not that her gut feeling is wrong. We have proven above that he is hiding an abnormal nature about him. Her doubts are about doing the right thing in the eyes of God. She lied first of all to get him to move, but the harm now is that he got a promotion. Moral ambiguity is lack of sense in ethical decision-making. This means morally ambiguous characters are difficult to classify as either good or evil, as they contain strong aspects of both. These types of characters generally have real problems, causing their inner conflicts, which also makes them sympathetic. Stories that have morally ambiguous characters usually create built-in tension, because there is always the question of whether their conniving nature will be able to take hold, causing them to fail in their pursuit. In the play The Crucible, an example of a morally ambiguous character is Mary Warren.
The play “Doubt” by John Patrick Shanley began with a sermon by Father Brendan Flynn, a well liked and enlightened neighborhood priest, who says, "Doubt can be a bond as powerful and sustaining as certainty". (Shanley 6) Sister Aloysius Beauvier is a strict traditional nun, who was declared to protect and secure St. Nicholas Church School. Father Flynn seems to be the protagonist in the play and Sister Aloysius is the antagonist. The whole play, sister Aloysius Beauvier suspected Father Flynn of molesting a 12-year-old boy named Donald Muller, who is the first African-American student in the St. Nicholas Church School. I think that Sister Aloysius’s overreacting, because Father Flynn is innocent. In the middle of these two characters, Sister James is a young and innocent teacher who wants to be neutral between the conflict of Sister Aloysius and Father Flynn.

Based on what I watched and understood in the movie Lars Von Trier’s “Breaking the Waves”, relating it to the Kierkegaardian concept of the teleological suspension of the ethical, Bess McNeill shows ethical acts to her husband, Jan. But the question is, what is ethical? Ethical means that the thing or action which a society follows or a set of standards or norms that to be followed. It is applicable to the universal and it is in ethical that which distinguishes either our action is good or bad. It doesn’t destroy any law or order in the society. In relation to Bess, as the wife of Jan, she did the ethical acts as a wife such as taking care of her husband, doing the household chores, making Jan happy, and doing her sexual obligation to her husband
A reputation can be so well established that if one person in power does a wrongdoing people will not believe it. For example when Mrs. Muller says, “Let me ask you something. You honestly think that priest gave Donald that wine to drink?” (47). Donald’s mother is questioning sister Aloysius because she does not believe Father Flynn would do something like that. He has a reputation of being a great priest and his reputation is better than Sister Aloysius’. Mrs. Muller states, “You’re not going against no man in a robe and win, Sister. He’s got the position.” (47). Just by Father Flynn being a male he has a higher reputation than a nun, which he knows and can accumulate for his actions. The first doubt about Father Flynn’s behavior occurs to Sister Aloysius when he gives a sermon on the nature of doubt. Father notes that doubt can also be a unifying force like faith, and Sister Aloysius assumes that he has had doubts of some kind that must have motivated the topic for the sermon. She then discusses the sermon with her fellow nuns, asks if anyone has observed unusual behavior that would inspire Father Flynn to preach about doubt, and instructs them to observe Father’s behavior closely. The second basis for the doubt occurs when Sister James reveals to Sister Aloysius that Father Flynn and Donald (a twelve year old African American boy in the school) have been spending an unusual amount of time in the church rectory. She also discloses that Donald was called by Father Flynn in the middle of a lesson and she could smell alcohol in his breath when he returned. The differences between the movie doubt and the play have significant differences that would influence ones opinion about certain characters and situations in the story. Though the differences are few one would agree that at least one of these differences are game changers or at the very least they get you thinking and having doubts of your own.

People’s assumptions are based upon personal experience and gut feeling, also on their upbringing; nature and nurture. Shanley uses inference in this play to create doubt in the audience’s minds'. The verdict is never in, on Flynn; guilty or not guilty. Shanley’s audience is left to be the jury.

However, it is clearly seen that as a child, Scout fails to see the importance, and controversy of the current social issues happening at the time, and the fact that she is able to reflect on her past while telling the story, explains to us how she has changed and matured over the years. In the 1998 film, The Truman Show, Truman Burbank is unaware that he has been living in a constructed society that is displayed on T.V. for the world to see. The show is called “The Truman Show” and it stars Burbank as the main character. The manipulated reality of the hit show causes millions of people to tune in on the 24/7 broadcast, of a man living in a picture perfect society. The ethics depicted in the reality of the “The Truman Show” are morally wrong as it illustrates the idea that a “perfect” life means happiness, unexpected and unplanned circumstances are not the norm, and the idea that there is nothing in the world worth going out and discovering.

For many people, this stems from religious traditions, however there are historically, and current, instances when a religious regime grows so powerful it becomes virtually unchecked. To be clear, I do not interpret any religion as good or bad. However, from a historical and political perspective, religious institutions, customs, and laws have been used to hide heinous crimes. The movie, “Spotlight”, is based on a true story about a team of investigative journalists at the Boston Globe. The Spotlight Team was comprised of multiple reporters, namely: Marty Baron, Ben Bradlee, Jr., Sacha Pfeiffer, Mike Rezendes, and Walter Robinson. The film starts in 2001, when the team
