What is a sexual script? “A sexual script consists of expectations of how to behave sexually as a female or male and as a heterosexual, bisexual lesbian, or gay. It enables each individual to organize sexual situations and interpret emotions and sensations as sexually meaningful.” In today’s society, sexuality is formed on the who, what, when, where and why. The who; sex is taught by people who are familiar with one another or a stranger, usually around age groups. Some tend to masturbate, have sex with the same sex and incest. The what; these types of what are usually classified as to things being acceptable or unacceptable, moral or unmoral. Either way these terms are usually culturally and historically relative. “Scripts are involved in learning the meaning of internal states, organizing the sequencing of specifically sexual acts, decoding novel situations, setting the limits on sexual responses and linking meanings from nonsexual aspects of life to specifically sexual experience” (Gagnon and Simon 1973) – So when sexual scripts come into play, its all about the learning process whether you are inexperienced to the experience through peer influences Are sexual scripts for adolescents changing? Of course they are! I am 24 years old, at the age of 15, not once did I think of being sexually active and so did the rest of the people I hung out with. As the years progressed, the kids in today’s generations are looking more grown and are sexually active. I look at them and think, “Wow she’s beautiful I wonder how old is she?” As I go ask, her response was 17 years old.
