Socialization occurs throughout all of life, it’s a continuing process whereby an individual acquires a personal identity and learns the norms, values, behavior, and social skills appropriate to his or her social position. In today’s western world, agents of socialization are family, school, work, social media (Instagram, facebook, Snapchat, Tumblr, Youtube, Twitter, WhatsApp, Skype, Pinterest, etc.) and entertainment media (Television, music, radio, movies, books, magazines, news, posters etc.)

School is a place where the students mainly learn how to socialize with different kinds of people from different backgrounds, different religions, different race, and different values. School is also place where a student may or may not learn resilience, this resilience derives from outer variables such as work, or family, coming into school life and creating an impossible atmosphere. The child unfortunately, must work through their pain/ distractions to receive the necessary reward of passing. The necessary reward, (passing) is a phrase here that means, in today’s society, passing, getting good marks is imperative to make money and survive in the Western world, this compulsory duty of the students is disguised as a reward, with gold star stickers, diction like perfect, fabulous and amazing on their tests. Through all of these types of media, social and entertainment, it gives people a compulsion to stay in the now, and keep up to date. Media of any kind tells you when your in style and when your out of style. Unfortunately, in our society, the basis of our conversation revolves around the different social media we human beings encountered. Many conversations will start with “have you guys seen…” and I saw this thing on…” It seems like it’s our only mode of acquiring knowledge because we use it so much. Young children are also very influenced by this, the t.v. can be used as a form of ‘educational entertainment’ because as many of us know, kids are like sponges, they soak up everything they hear and see. For example, in the iconic movie Mean Girls Regina George’s sister is watching music videos with sexy, possibly profound dancers as the main focus (keep in mind Regina’s sisters about 8 years young), the next shot is Regina's sister imitating the moves she see on the screen which include: body rolling, touching herself and isolating her hips. This became the norm in the George’s house because the mother envy’s those young girls for their youth and therefore she values fun, excitement, and living life to the fullest.
