Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Post traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD is a serious condition that can occur to people who have experienced a serious accident, natural disaster, terrorist incident, sudden death of a loved one, war, violent rape, or other life-threatening events. It is also proven that women are twice as likely to develop post traumatic stress disorder than men, this is because women are ore likely to be victim to domestic violence and rape. PTSD can cause severe depression and anxiety for months or even years after the incident. It is also normal for people suffering from PTSD to experience flashbacks, nightmares or intense memories of the terrible event. Although most people think that PTSD develops from high stress and war situations, it can occur mildly from car accidents or even a close encounter with death. War, physical or sexual assault, natural disaster, any type of crash or accident and the sudden death of a loved one can all cause PTSD. Some cases of PTSD are more severe than others, this is because every incident causing PTSD is different. Depending on the severity, some people who have PTSD can overcome it and move on but sadly, most people can never get rid of it. Sufferers of PTSD may relive the event over and over again. This means the victim will relive the event through nightmares, flashbacks and even hallucinations. Also the patient might avoid people places thought or even situations that resemble the traumatic event in any way. The person can also lose interest in activities they used to enjoy and feel isolated and detached from family members and friends. Victims can also experience difficulty falling and staying asleep, irritability, problems relating to others, outbursts of anger, difficulty concentrating and being jumpy, scared or easily
