Imagine a world without education. People would not read, they would not write, and they would not even form coherent sentences. Clearly, education is a critical part in every civilian 's lives. However, there are many parts to an education. Every citizen should have the basic education on math, science, history, and language. Without this knowledge, people struggle in the everyday world. Art greatly depends on the ability to modify and enhance personal work. With this ability to think analytically, you are able to pick out the outliers in a piece of work. Critical thinking helps in many different academic subjects. In sciences, it is very important to think logically. Not only does it help to pick out the errors in experiments, but it also can help to observe conclusions and have the capacity to understand the meaning behind them. Currently, many schools are implementing a new science, technology, engineering, and math education program (STEM). This new program forces students to think critically, which makes art a primary aid in the STEM education process. Not only will the practical applications of the concepts students learn in the laboratory help enhance the quality of STEM education, but also the concepts learned in the art rooms. Dr. James A. Ejiwale is a renowned professor at Jackson State University working in the technology department. Because he is so influential in the field of technology he knows what employers look for in potential employees. Creative thinking is a lifelong skill that is best learned at a young age. A good imagination can help out in writing, engineering, and special designers. Some colleges would say that creative thinking skills are one of the highest priorities in an education. Roger Glass is a member of South Florida Orff Chapter, which is known for promoting arts as core subjects in education. In his article he writes, “The arts can help students become tenacious, team-oriented problem solvers who are confident and able to think creatively.” (Glass 10). Frieda Kahlo was born Magdalena Carmen Frieda Kahlo y Calderon in Coyoacan, Mexico, July 6th, 1907. She did not in the first place plan to become a creator; she entered a pre-Master of Education system in Mexico City. All around the United States, art programs are being cut out of the budget in public schools. The arts include dance, band, chorus, theatre, film, drawing, painting, photography and literary arts. Some school board members feel these art programs are not necessary and do not benefit the students in any way. Elementary, middle, and high school students are forced to quit their passion and feel that their talents are not supported by their schools. Although many are not aware, there is a strong connection between arts education and academic achievement. Unfortunately, due to budget cuts in many public schools, the art classes are first on the list to be cut. It is important that the students, parents and teachers fight for their desire to keep the arts in public schools. Art programs in public schools are essential to the development of young minds; therefore the school boards should enhance and improve the programs and should not cut funding or force a class to be discontinued.

Art can be used to raise scores in every subject, “Students who took four years of art classes scored 91 points higher on their SAT exams than those who took half a year or less. Multiple studies also confirmed that there is a correlation between art engagement and students’ other achievements.” (Valeriya Metla) Even with the research linking art and better grades some educators think that it is more worth while to only focus on the core classes because it is more important to fund what is being tested than to help raise children who are creative.

In today’s society anything can be considered “Art”. From the great sounds of a symphony, to the architecture of a modern structure, or even an elephant painting with its trunk, art is what the viewer perceives it to be. Individuals will always agree or disagree with the message behind a certain piece of art, as pieces can be offensive to some, but beautiful to others. Creative Arts in early childhood education refers to children’s participation in a variety of activities that engage their minds, bodies and senses (Sinclair, Jeanneret & O’Toole, 2012; Kearns, 2017); to inspire all children with the opportunity for creative and imaginative expression. Duffy (2006) and Sinclair et al. (2012) state that creativity is the process where children use their imagination to problem solve, develop new ideas, independence and flexibility to accomplish tasks.
