Education and the learning process are like baking cupcakes. The ingredients of reading, language arts, math and science are measured and carefully blended to produce a smooth, rich, smart, and balanced batter. The batter is then poured into each student cake cup, a little at a time. It takes approximately eight or nine years to fill the cup, but be patient and continue to pour the batter in a little at a time. Finally, the individual student cakes are ready to be baked. When the cupcakes have cooled, they should appear well-rounded from carefully adding the batter a little at a time. It is now time for icing and décor. Take your time with the decorating process. Public education should teach students what they need to know to make smart choices. The public school system should assist students in developing personal and social values as well as an understanding of how society functions. Students should develop problem solving and leadership skills as well as tolerance and willingness to accept ideas other than their own. They should develop the skills necessary to work independently as well as in a group. In the early years of education, the student should become proficient in the areas of reading, writing, math, science, and technology to the extent of being prepared to utilize these skills in the learning process of their secondary years in public school. For example, at the elementary level of education, a student will read with the objective of learning to read. Consequently, the student will be prepared to read with the objective to learn at the secondary level of education. However, high school students should be treated equally competent to make decisions in relation to their own education and should be offered the opportunities to apply and master the basic skills through the exploration of life skill and personal interest courses. Moreover, at this time, students should acquire the knowledge that will be useful upon completion of high school. Certainly, in a nation ruled by law, students should become familiar with the laws of the county, state, and country in which they reside and the penalties imposed for breaking those laws. In addition, students should be schooled in banking practices, credit practices, mortgages and home buying, college options and financing, and any other areas that could harm them financially if they are left ignorant to their functionality and possibly impede their progress into adulthood. Hence, removing as many pitfalls as we possibly can. At this time, I believe we rely on parental guidance in these areas which is not available to all students or it is simply unreliable and inaccurate
