The topic child soldiers is a very serious topic. Are child soldiers criminals or victims? I think they are victims and here are the reasons why I think they are victims. First child soldiers are forced into the war. Second the child soldiers use drugs so they are more compliant. Third they can be easily intimidated by these adults because young children look up to the older people they are around. Fourth the army promised food, shelter, water, and drugs when they have not rewarded those things when they join.
In the article “Child Soldiers: If not Prosecution, Then What?” Some children are kidnapped by military officers and then the children are brainwashed into killing civilians. Even though they are doing these horrible acts they are brainwashed right after they are kidnapped. The families don’t even know they

For the kids that say no, they are killed by a gunshot right then and there. For the kids that join, they are brainwashed and drugged into killing innocent people.
Now some people think that the child soldiers should be prosecuted because they kill U.S soldiers and they just don’t care about it. The thing is that the child soldier that kills U.S troops was brainwashed as a younger child and was taught that killing is good. They are also drugged. The terrorist use cocaine and gunpowder mix to drug these kids and then send them into battle.
These were my reasons why child soldiers are victims. I also counterclaimed a piece of evidence on why someone would think that child soldiers should be prosecuted. I personally feel horrible for these kids because they were brainwashed and that's why if the U.S thinks that some child is a threat there are programs that can try and brainwash him or she so they know killing is a horrible
In a significant part of the world, there are many countries that recruit child to become soldiers against their will. Child soldiers are being utilized to commit horrendous actions that people would not believe could be done by just kids. The United States should intervene in wars where child soldiers are being used ,because they are transformed against their will, being killed and the ones who survived are more likely to become psychopaths.
As defined by Timothy Webster, author of Babes with Arms: International Law and Child Soldiers, a child soldier is “any person under the age of eighteen who is or has been associated with any kind of regular or irregular armed group, including those who serve as porters, spies, cooks, messengers and including girls recruited for sexual purposes (Webster, 2007, pp.230). As this definition reveals, a child soldier is more than simply a child with a gun. It is estimated that there are approximately 300,000 children under the age of 18, being used as soldiers in 33 conflicts currently, and this figure continues to rise (Webster, 2007, pp.227). Similarly, in 1999 it was estimated that more than 120,000 children, under the age of 18, were used as soldiers to fight ...
There is no exact known number of children currently being utilised in warfare worldwide. The issue of the military use of children is so widespread that no figure can be calculated, although it is estimated that there are currently over 250,000 child soldiers across the world. Many are drugged and brainwashed into murder, many are forced to sever all ties with their family or watch them die. Most are faced with a simple choice: kill or be killed. Although the notion of child soldiers is vastly alien to contemporary Australian society, it is a reality in many parts of the world. ISIS have been known to employ the use of children in warfare and over 30,000 children have been abducted into the Lord’s Resistance Army for military purposes. It
Before it can be decided whether or not to forgive child soldiers, the question, “What is a child soldier?” must be asked. A child soldier, is a person under the age of 18 who is being used, and most often being forced, to fight other people. Some may ask, “How can you force a child to fight if they do not want to?” A better question to ask would be, “Who wants to?” you may think that no child would want to fight, but in their shoes it might be a different story. They have probably lost everything; their homes, food, water, and their safety, so when they see the opportunity to have these things again- they are going to take it. Which is my first reason child soldiers should be forgiven and given amnesty on certain levels. Also, after
Imagine being given a gun and drugs and forced to kill on demand or be killed. This is the life of a child soldier in a nutshell. There is no question that child soldiers should be given amnesty because they are being forced to do things against their will and hardly have a choice of what they are doing. A child in a village doesn’t get to decide if their village is attacked and they are made a soldier. It is wrong that someone, especially a child, should be held accountable for something they can’t control except to lose their own life instead.

How would you feel if you were taken away from your family, only to be forced to fight? How would you feel if you were forced to kill others? Would you accept if this was your only access to food, money, and shelter? This is often what child soldiers go through. I believe that child soldiers should be granted amnesty because they are forced to join, they are given drugs, making it hard for them to quit, and because of rehabilitation.
An example in, “Analysis: should child soldiers be prosecuted for their crimes?Pg 1” states that, “ If minor children who have committed serious war crimes are not prosecuted, this could be an incentive for their commanders to delegate them to the dirtiest orders, aiming at impunity.” Also, “Summaative Essay Pg 2,” states that “ Child soldiers have been responsible for some of the most brutal acts in wartime such as rape, mutilation, and mass killings of innocent people,” First of all I would like to direct you to the second piece of evidence. Child soldiers are responsible for man unthinkable actions. These actions change the lives of many people. I believe that the commanders benefit most of all from child soldiers not being prosecuted. If child soldiers are not prosecuted this gives the commander, and the children, reason to think these crimes are okay. And they're
Africa has been described as “the world’s most silent crisis.” They’ve been labeled this because African’s have struggled with child soldiers for many years. Child soldiers are used all throughout Africa. That includes Mozambique, Somalia, Congo and Uganda. The Central African Region (CAR) is the most known vicinity that employs child soldiers due to the viral video released in 2012, by an organization called “The Invisible Children”. The focus of this video was on the notorious Lord’s Resistance Army leader, Joseph Kony. The video helped spread awareness about child soldiers but there are many other places that use child soldiers that are not talked about. This has been an issue for nearly 20 years. There’re places in the world where children are being abducted and coerced into becoming fighters at very young ages. Young adults should not just understand how this is happening, but why and how to help. Children should not have to worry about whether they are going to be abducted at night and have to kill their friends and family the next day. Children becoming soldiers in Africa has been an issue for far too long and needs to be stopped.

One reason why child soldiers are victims is they are taken advantage of in armed forces. Children tend to act without thinking through so then on command they commit terrible acts of violence. In a breeze, they can be taken control of because they are more easy to manipulate than adults. As a result, commanders use this as a tool when recruiting
Sometimes dealing with children can be a battle in itself, but in many countries, children fight the battles that adults have created. These young people are known as children warriors, soldiers, and combatants. The use of children in war is an unfortunate issue; but it is part of some people’s everyday life. Whether the child is fighting for their government or their life, they are often in constant danger. The foreign policies that have been put in place to protect children have yet to halt the ever-growing amount of children combatants.
The first reason as stated by debatewise.org “Once children are recruted it is also difficult for them to leave because they become dependant on their commanders for drugs, alcohol money and ood.” allow me to explain this quote deeper. once they are “recruited” or in reality when they are kidnapped they are then drugged with cocaine mixed with gunpowder and if they refuse to take the drugs they are beaten or killed and sometimes both. Then after they are drugged they are forced to watch people be killed right in front of them this makes them even more dependant on the drugs and now they are dependant on alcohol in addition to be able to escape the grief so they become dependant on their commanders. The second reason why they are victimised has to do with the fate that they were forced into when they were kidnapped and the statistics about this was stated very well in the article summative essay child soldiers “...in the last 10 years over 2 million children have been killed, over 1 million orphaned, over 6 million have been left seriously injured or permanently disabled and over 10 million have been diagnosed with psychological trauma.” This proves that child soldiers are victims because according to google the definition of viacom is “A person harmed injured or killed as result of a crime accident or other event or action.” and over 10 million child soldiers have been diagnosed with psychological trauma.
First, I think there shouldn’t be Child Soldiers because their brain hasn’t fully developed, which means they will be scared. For example, when they have to kill someone, they’re going to panic and then run away and get killed. Also, if they kill someone, they’re going to see the blood gushing and would want to go home. For example, they will shoot someone and then see them fall down, then they will go up to see they are “OK” and they will see the blood and try to help them which will get them killed, Or one of their fellow mates will get injured and then they’ ll see the blood and panic and won’t know what to do. My point is they will be scared.
One may begin to wonder: why are child soldiers used in the first place? It would seem that due to there age they would not do as a proficient job as older combatants, who want to fight willingly for a cause. And that there would be too much time wasted on trying to brainwash them into carrying out commands. However, there are is a multitude of reasons as to why using them is appealing.
