Would you have envy of someone just because they have had more special experiences than you? There is a lot of envy shown in the book, All Summer In A Day, by Ray Bradbury from the kids in the main character’s class. Her name is Margot and moved from Earth to Venus and now she misses the sun and wants to see it more than anything else in the world. Now they only get to see the sun every 7 years but she still barely remembers the sun before she moved when she was little. The only bad thing is that all her friends are envious of her and make fun of her for that. This quote demonstrates the envy of the classmates from when a boy doesn’t believe her. This is how the author describes her in the book and why some of the other classmates may not like her. “They hated her pale snow face, her waiting silence, her thinness, and her possible future. ‘Get away!’ The boy gave her another push. ‘What’re you waiting for?’" They also tell her to get away from them as if she is going to hurt them in some way. This offers how they envy her, and even though she may be frail, but she has experiences that the others don’t but wish they could have. In conclusion, all of her classmates are very envious of her and exposes it very often in the book, All Summer In A Day. Ray Bradbury does a great job in making it obvious and it is a very well written book. The theme of the book is to not be mean to someone just because you are envious of their experiences or the objects they have. The bad part about the book and the largest problem is that their envy becomes so awful that they make her miss the one time every 7 years that she could finally see what she’s been missing the whole
