Adolf Hitler Adolf Hitler was the leader of Germany during 1933-1945. He was the primary mastermind of the Holocaust that was the mass destruction of millions of people, whom he deemed inferior to the Aryan ideal. Hitler is most commonly known for the unforgivable deeds that he committed in his lifetime. Those acts were terrible and left a scar on the world that can never be mended. His thirst for power ignited when he was twice rejected from the Viennese Academy of Fine Arts and ultimately led to his quest for racial purity and “lebensraum” resulting in one of the worst genocides known to man. Adolf Schickelgruber Hitler was born on April 20, 1889 in the small town of Braunau in Austria. Adolf was the fourth of six children born to his father Alois Hitler and his mother Klara Polzl. Alois was a minor customs official, while his mother Klara was a housewife. At primary school, Hitler showed great intellectual potential and was extremely popular with his fellow classmates and teachers, as well as being admired for his leadership qualities (Haugen, 20). However, when he went to secondary school it was a lot tougher than he expected. Eventually Hitler stopped trying and dropped out of high school when he was 16. Adolf’s harsh, short-tempered father was angry about how poorly he did in high school and wanted him to become a civil servant, not an artist like his son wanted to. Later, Hitler wrote in a journal, “I yawned and grew sick to my stomach at the thought of sitting in an office, deprived off my liberty; ceasing to be the master of my own time and being compelled to force the content of a whole life into blanks that had to be filled out” (Haugen, 20). Earlier that year in January, Hitler was appointed German chancellor and his Nazi government soon came to control every aspect of his life. Hitler steps towards establishing Germany as the world's leading power and annihilating the Jews became even bolder since the other countries did not take action. The Nazis used a variety of methods for convincing the German people that the “Final Solution” was the proper course for their country, this is what started the Holocaust. These methods included propaganda explicit and implicit threats of cruel violence. (Giblin, 27) The Holocaust was the most horrifying persecution and murder.
