Many young fans from all over the world have been attracted to the new, hottest music sensation called Korean pop or K-pop. K-pop are groups of young men and women, who incorporates amazing dance moves to the catchy tunes in their music and most of all everyone is in love with their gorgeous looks. In recent years, K-pop music popularity music had increased so much where YouTube has now added K-pop as a genre to its music page (Stone, 2013). Not only is K-pop music seems to be setting a trend but also the boys and girls in these music groups are encouraging a trend themselves. The inspiration and popularity of the rising pop stars are creating an increase demand in plastic surgery obsessions for the younger generation (Francis, 2013).
These young, Korean women and men are turning to plastic surgery because they believe that they have better chances and opportunities at being successful in life if they have a beautiful face and body (Francis, 2013). Many employers in Korea requires job applicants to attach a photo of their head shot on their resume when turning in their application because they have high viewpoints that beauty brings in more social capital to their own businesses and to be more prosperous. According to Francis (2013), one in five Koreans between the ages of 19 to 49 has had some type or form of cosmetic surgery, but when comparing to the United States, one in twenty has had their looks alter surgically.
The common types of surgeries that the K-pop cultures are getting done are the V-line surgery, rhinoplasty (nose job), and the double eyelid surgery (Ahmad, 2014). ...them be a part of the statistics. The outer beauty should be a perfect mirror image of the inner beauty. The negative surrounding is possible to make an impact over a person’s self-esteem but that is when you shy yourself away from any negativities in life.
While Koreans are embracing the bizarre transformation and taking it to the extreme at times, it may also be consider as something that is natural progression for them. Plastic surgery is not for everyone but if he or she wants it and it will make them happy, then sure they can go get it done. Korean pop needs to allow young women and men to adapt into loving and embracing themselves and knowing the true meaning of their existence into this world before allowing them to turn to plastic surgery every time they are not happy with their life. Falsifying their beauty should never be a standard for any cultures.
