My research findings, and data analysis concluded that education is one of the most important factors for Filipino Americans. The Philippines is an extremely impoverished country that lacks the social and economic structure to support all of the educated, and English speaking workers. Therefore, an education is ones best ticket to new opportunity and success. In Filipino culture, parents will do their best in order earn their child an education, and it is deemed one of the greatest accomplishments as a parent (Herrera, page 16). Through my research I was able to determine how first generation Filipinos were able to assimilate, and the degree to which they maintained their Filipino culture, or adopted a new American way of life. Through the explanation of trends in immigration, and the ways in which how pre-existing social standings played a role in the ways in which cultural identity is sustained. While previously, it has been originally thought that there was a huge divide between first, and second generation immigrants in terms of their inability to find common ground among their values and differences. However, my research has shown me that there is no way to predict the individual experiences of immigrants, or how well they will assimilate for there are many things to take into account due to the forging of ethnic identities that incorporate both traditional, and modern views as time goes
