One of the most controversial topics of the early 2000’s is whether or not to accept women into combat roles, on the front lines, in the U.S. military. Plenty of men and women around the country are attempting to instate equality of the genders in the 21st century. This would be a gargantuan step in equalizing the genders, as being a decorated member of the military is one of the most highly respected achievements among most cultures. Women should be allowed to serve on the front lines if they have the ability to meet all of the same standards of a male candidate including, but not limited to physical ability, because of yearning for equality of the sexes, better diversity amongst the military, and by having the ability to choose the best possible candidate for the job in question. …show more content…

With more women in the military, policy will be shaped by more than what only one sex needs. For example, women need access to certain feminine articles that men have no use for. Women also need different sizing of clothing than men do in most instances. Bringing female diversity will also grant a new perspective on some issues and different ways of thinking. A study done in 1991 by Diane Halpern shows that on average women excel in all measures of verbal ability (except verbal analogies), reading comprehension, writing ability, fine-motor skills, perceptual speed, and have an easier time recalling information from long-term memory. On the other hand men, on average, can handle multiple items in working memory better, and have superior visuospatial skills. This includes estimating angles, the positions of objects that are being rotated, and tracking moving objects at aiming projectiles.
