The Envisioner The envisioner has the ability to focus on one big idea and follow it. As a highly effective educational leader, the envisioner reflects and mediates with a sense of purpose. Highly effective principals are able to see academically declining schools and view what they will look like after the mission. An envisioner definitely begins with a school vision in which others may not or cannot see. Horn Lake Intermediate School’s Principal Rosie King begins her first day of the new school year with a vision in mind. Her vision is to improve student learning regardless of students’ social economic statuses, free or reduced lunch rates, and previous years’ state assessments. The school’s motto is “We teach with Hope, Love, and Integrity.” Mrs. King is determined to grow every student through high expectations and rigid work.
She envisions success and moves our low achieving intermediate school forward beginning with improving students’ reading comprehension and demonstrating proficiency in all core subjects. Every staff members is paired with a third grade student to help improve reading comprehension skills. King intuitively know data is the key to moving the school forward. An envisioner can see the invisible vision. It is a vision of not what you see tomorrow, but what you will see in the years to come. The vision of Horn Lake Intermediate School is one of improving student achievement and learning by evaluating data sets, teacher reflections, and professional development. Mrs. King resembles the hedgehog by knowing one big thing, which is using data to guide instruction. The goal is to do what is in the best interest of all students. She knows how to cultivate learners through student driven data. Our planning room encompasses a data wall and consists of student reading data, student interventions, Lexile scores, and district benchmark
