In the novel Ender’s Game and the movie The Matrix, the society that they are living in have their entire lives revolved around technology to a point where it has become uncontrollable and has more negative impacts than positive ones. Both protagonists, Ender and Neo, are in a society where technology is drowning them. Respectable programmer and hacker in the year 2171, Neo, is faced with the task to challenge the AI (artificial intelligence) technology who is holding his society’s feeling in their captivity. The further Neo tries to fight, the more flaws he finds about technology. From being a tech-savvy person himself, he is supposedly “the one” to free his society from the dangers and captivity of technology. As for Ender, he too relies extensively on technology to a certain degree where he is unable to recognize the difference between what is reality and what is a game. The main protagonist from Ender’s Game, Ender starts to show many of these qualities as the plot progresses and towards the end of the novel, he comes to the long awaited realization to what has become of him. Isolation is caused by a lack of human interaction and with the aid technology human interaction is either very limited or completely eliminated. This can cause a lack of basic social skills such as verbal and non-verbal, through gestures and body language. Technology has been around as long as people have and has been advancing ever since. It is the reason that we have access to the miraculous tools that we do today. From the forks that we eat our supper with to the cars that get us from place to place technology is everywhere. However, with technology advancing at such a rapid pace, it could pose a threat to our future society. In the short stories “Harrison Bergeron” by Kurt Vonnegut and “By the Waters of Babylon” by Stephen Vincent Benet, the authors describe how bleak society could become if we do not take precautions when using technology.
In the film Wall-E, produced by Disney and the novel Fahrenheit 451, written by Ray Bradbury illustrate similar themes of how technology can destroy a society. Through technology, humans do not directly communicate with one another, they only interact through screens. Through technology, humans are letting robots and other technology do everything for them, making humans seem inferior to the machines. These futuristic technology based societies are a warning to the modern society to control the human use and production of technology.
In one of Plato’s works called The Allegory of the Cave he goes over what it means to get higher knowledge and the path you have to take to get to this higher knowledge. Plato also goes over how this higher knowledge or enlightenment will affect people and how they act. He ties this all together through what he calls the cave. Plato tells Glaucon a sort of story about how the cave works and what the people within the cave have to do to get to the enlightenment. Ender’s game is a science fiction novel written by Orson Scott card it was published in 1985. This book is in the future when in the story earth has been invaded by an alien race and is almost destroyed by the invasion but wins the battle and to prevent earth from being destroyed if they return they create the International fleet which recruits kids an teaches them to be commanders. The chapter that I am going to analyze is chapter one which is called Third. This chapter shows how Ender is being manipulated since the start and how he has to deal with being different by being a third.
“Isolation—the experience of being separated from others—may result from being physically removed from others, as when a person lives in a remote area, or it can result from the perception of being removed from a community, such as when a person feels socially or emotionally isolated from others,”(Abbasi, 1). There are many different ways to be isolated. There is both social isolation and physical isolation. These types are shown in Ender’s Game and The House of the Scorpion. "With Ender, we have to strike a delicate balance. Isolate him enough that he remains creative--otherwise, he'll adopt the systems here and we'll lose him. He is seen as a useful asset and the only way to keep him pure is to isolate him. The novels Ender's Game and Fahrenheit 451 take place in the future; the futures that the authors' have created are troubled and the world is approaching a disastrous end. Initially, Colonel Graff invites Ender to Battle School and tells him how important it is that he participates in the war. " 'The buggers may seem like a game to you now, Ender, but they damn near wiped us out last time. They had us cold, outnumbered and outweaponed. The only thing that saved us was that we had the most brilliant military commander we ever found. Call it fate, call it God, call it damnfool luck, we had Mazer Rackham.' " (p. 25) The future seems dark because the humans are trailing in bugger war. If the military could get another commander like Mazer Rackham, then the future would be brighter; Ender Wiggins trains to be the next Mazer Rackham. In Fahrenheit 451, people wanting to be entertained all the time causes the future to be mind numbing, bleak, and burnt. "The sun burnt every day. It burnt Time. The world rushed in a circle and turned on its axis and time was busy burning the years and the people anyway, without any help from him. So if he burnt things with the firemen and the sun burnt Time, that meant that everything burnt!" (p. 141)
There are many similarities between the motion picture, Matrix, and Orson Scott Card’s Ender’s Game. The most striking of these is the way the movie and the book begin. The first chapter of the book begins with a conversation between two IF agents about how one believes that ender is the one. Similarly, in the movie the first words are from Trinity, also stating her belief that Neo is “the one”. The theme of the “chosen one” who is destined to save the human race is dominant in both the movie and book.
Ender at just six years of age leaves his family to participate in an extremely rigorous course in which he learns how to be the best commander. This is where he makes many friends and enemies. Andrew Ender Wiggin was a genius. He was bred for these battles. He had a great amount of tactical skills, which allowed him to graduate early from many ranks. All the risk of losing humanity is put in Enders hands he may not know it but it's true and with all the challenges he is given when he fails to meet a requirement extra pressure is put on people such as Graff as he has told everyone that Ender is capable of saving the world from the Buggers. Ender learns from all his mistakes and from the experience, knowledge and skill he gains through out battle school.
The movie "Matrix" is drawn from an image created almost twenty-four hundred years ago by the greek philosopher, Plato in his work, ''Allegory of the Cave''.The Matrix is a 1999 American-Australian film written and directed by the Wachowski brothers. Plato, the creator of the Allegory of the Cave was a famous philosopher who was taught by the father of philosophy Socrates. Plato was explaining the perciption of reality from others views to his disciple Aristotle. The Matrix and the Allegory of the Cave share a simmilar relationship where both views the perciption of reality, but the Matrix is a revised modern perciption of the cave. In this comparison essay I am going to explain the similarities and deifferences that the Matrix and The Allegory of the Cave shares.In the Matrix, the main character,Neo,is trapped in a false reality created by AI (artificial intelligence), where as in Plato's Allegory of the Cave a prisoner is able to grasp the reality of the cave and the real life. One can see many similarities and differences in the film and the allegory. The most important similarity was between the film and the Allegory is the perception of reality.Another simmilarity that the movie Matrix and the Allegory of the Cave shares is that both Neo and the Freed man are prisoners to a system. The most important difference was that Neo never actually lived and experienced anything, but the freed man actually lived and experinced life.

William Gibson's Neuromancer is a complex story that deals with the future computer technology and the impact on the lives of the world citizens. There are themes of love, betrayal, trust, and forbidden knowledge within each of the story lines of the book. These story lines give a human quality to a world that is described as being controlled by computers and technology. Also throughout the book Gibson brings in the ethical and moral values of the debate over what cost humanity takes as technology advances. In the early 1900s when Henry Ford first used the automatic conveyor belt it came at the cost of hiring manual labor to do the job. The usage of the conveyor belt, however, redefined the factory assembly line. As with the previous example, technology comes with the advancement of a culture, but with those advancements come the decline of some part of the human aspect of the previous way of life. Sometimes this advancement is for the better and aids the next generation do more for their culture as well as the world, but there are those advancements that degrade humanity and cause more harm than good for the rest of society. Gibson deals with this debate and brings it into the modern era with creation of the Internet and World Wide Web in the late 1980s. Case as well as the other characters were faced with the underlying plot of if what they were doing for Wintermute was the right thing to do, and how would it effect the rest of society.
Imagine living through life completely bound and facing a reality that doesn’t even exist. The prisoners in Plato’s “Allegory of the Cave” are blind from true reality as well as the people in the movie “The Matrix” written and directed by the Wachowski brothers. They are given false images and they accept what their senses are telling them, and they believe what they are experiencing is all that really exists. Plato the ancient Greek philosopher wrote “The Allegory of the Cave”, to explain the process of enlightenment and what true reality may be. In the movie “The Matrix”, Neo (the main character) was born into a world of illusions called the matrix. His true reality is being controlled by the puppet- handlers called the machines who use the human body as a source of energy. In the movie, Neo, finds and alternate reality and he has to go on a journey to discover himself and what is around him. Much like “The Allegory of the Cave” the prisoners in a dark underground cave, who are chained to the wall, have a view of reality solely based upon this limited view of the cave which is but a poor copy of the real world. Both the prisoners of the cave, and Neo from the Matrix, have to transcend on the path of ‘enlightenment’ to know the truth of their own worlds.
As a result, the society of this scary inhumane, Brave New World is full with technology that is destroying humanity form us. Yes it is a perfect world and there no war, disease, crisis but also there is no emotions, feeling, love and especially any hope which are some of the necessary part of human nature. As a conclusion, technology controls the life of everyday people from the day they were born till the day they die in this Brave New World.
Ender’s game is mainly about a little boy, Ender Wiggin, who is very special and talented for his age of six years old. He was noticed by a man named Colonel Graff, who at the time was the leader of a place in space called Battle school. Graff needed someone talented enough to lead the IF Fleet in the Third Invasion against the buggers. Ender joined Battle school really early for his age, he progressed and learned things faster than anyone else there. He was promoted all the way up to Command school earlier than usual. Soon enough he lead the IF Fleet into the Third Invasion and destroyed the buggers. Ender ended up being the hero and exterminating the “dangerous” buggers from existence. In the movie The Matrix we find a character by the name of Neo and his struggle adapting to the truth...to reality. This story is closely similar to an ancient Greek text written by Plato called "The Allegory of the Cave." Now both stories are different but the ideas are basically the same. Both Stories have key points that can be analyzed and related to one another almost exactly. There is no doubt that The Matrix was based off Greek philosophy. The idea of freeing your mind or soul as even stated in "The Allegory of the Cave" is a well known idea connecting to Greek philosophy. The Matrix is more futuristic and scientific than "The Cave" but it's the same Idea. Neo is trapped in a false reality created by a computer program that was created by machines that took over the planet. Now the story of course has many themes such as Man vs. Machine, Good vs. Evil, and our favorite Reality vs. Illusion. Neo is unplugged from the matrix and learns the truth and becomes "the one" who is to save the humans from their machine oppressors. "The Cave" is similar in that it has humans trapped in a cave and chained up to only face one direction. The "puppeteers" then make shadows against the wall the humans face using the fire from the outside as a light source. One big difference is that "The Cave" is about two philosophers conversing about the cave as one explains what needs to happen and that the prisoners must free their souls to find truth. The Matrix is the actions of what the philosopher describes actually happening. The comparing of the two stories will show how things said in "The Cave" are the same as in The Matrix, of course with the exception that one is futuristic ...
