The vocational learning outcomes set out the demonstration of learning and achievement that the student must reliably demonstrate before graduation. The elements of the performance for each outcome define and clarify the level and quality of performance necessary to meet the requirements of the vocational learning outcome. However, it is the performance of the vocational learning outcome itself on which students are evaluated. The elements of performance are indicators of the means by which the student may proceed to satisfactory performance of the vocational learning outcome. I try to assess professional skills, knowledge and personal well-being in an on-going manner and reflect on the impact of these factors on my own practice. In my first placement I noticed signs of burn-out in my supervising teacher after working in a class of troubled youth and could see that she needed some time away to do some self-care. She did take that time and came back much brighter and ready to teach the clients effectively again. In my second year placement I did not notice a lot of burn-out as the type of facility that it was, did not always have the same staff and was part-time to begin with. In my third and current year I have noticed that signs of burn out are always around me. This is most likely because it is a Child and Youth Mental Health secure unit where clients can be aggressive and are generally very ill. Most recently I witnessed staff get assaulted and there is a plan in place for staff to take time off to do self -care if something like this happens. Knowing that there are some things set in place here makes me feel good, but the fact that we as CYWs are vulnerable to that abuse or assaultive behaviour is always scary and people can burn out just from the potential of that happening day after day. I seek and use formal and informal supervision opportunities and ongoing feedback to enhance my professional growth and competence. I am required to have a supervisor during placement, so I get a mix between formal and informal supervisor. Most of the time I am quite independent in my placement settings, but for my current one I have someone with me most of the time as there is a high risk for something to happen to me as well as any other staff left alone. I enjoy getting feedback from supervisors as it shows me where they see me, it shows me if I am meeting their expectations so I know where there is room to grow and it does make me feel more comfortable in the setting. I am able to determine my current skills and knowledge through self-assessment, reflection and collaboration with peers and supervisor. I always establish reasonable, measurable and realistic personal and professional goals which enhance my work performance, I do this through placement, school, work and life itself. I always, act in accordance with professional codes of ethics and professional standards, I read policies and procedures of the different places I work/am placed at and always clarify if I need to. Supervisors should specify the responsibilities and expectations of both parties in the supervisory relationship in order to avoid boundary issues (APA, 2014). The supervisees and supervisor expectation for the supervisory relationship should be discussed and agreed upon. Ethical considerations need to be address to provide behavioral guidelines to supervisors, to protect supervisees from undue harm or neglect, and to ensure quality of client care (Corey et.al, 2011). I quickly became a leader at the agency and mentored many of the newer staff members. During this time I held two different positions as I had been promoted under the same supervisor. Supervision was consistent; once per week and my supervisor also made himself available as needed. My supervisor was supportive, understanding, promoted my growth in the field as well as in the workplace. In addition my supervisor was pivotal in me choosing to continue my education and was extremely flexible with my work schedule when needed.

Knowing what is triggering, what is stressful, and if the coping techniques are working, are important things to discuss during supervision. The purpose of this study is to help find a cure to burn out. The word cure is used here because it is an illness. Burnout like many other illness out there has symptoms, as mentioned earlier burnout can cause many issues like physiological problems, sleep disorder and overall feeling of fatigue. Supervision and feedback offers critique and support to improve trajectory in learning, education, knowledge and accountability. Given and used constructively it assists with potential development and enhances understanding (Kadushin & Harkness, 2002). It creates confidence, encouragement and emotional support; which helps relieve stress (Kirkland & Manoogian, 1998). To demonstrate professional commitment and taking responsibility to my practice I ensured I asked for personal feedback. To my delight the carer expressed she felt comfortable with me as I provided empathy and a sense of understanding just by listening. Also, core issues were discovered which lead to self-directed discussion based on solutions she wanted. This feedback was essential in providing me confidence and motivation.

The term 'new Vocationalism' describes the view that education should primarily meet the needs of the economy. The introduction of new Vocationalism required a number of educational policy changes including the introduction of Youth Training Schemes (YTS) and more recently, General National Vocational Qualifications (GNVQ). This view stems from the notion that young people are ill-prepared for work because they have limited work experience, and as a consequence are not looked on favourably by potential employers. Because of these reasons it was seen as necessary action to introduce into Britain New Vocationalism to give young people the required work experience.
