Edgar Allan Poe, the famous American author of many poems and short stories, has the verbal/linguistic intelligence. According to Gardner's Theory of Multiple Intelligences, a person can one or two of the eight multiple intelligences that they can use to understand the world around them. Poe, is a good example of the verbal/ linguistic intelligences as they tend to be people who enjoy words and are good at using them. This is seen in Poe as he was an editor of several different magazines and newspapers, he won several awards over the course of his life for his writings, and he is still famous for his writings today even though he died many years ago.

Phelps, the most decorated Olympian of all time, holds 28 metals in swimming. He also holds several world records, including the 100-meter butterfly and 400-meter medley. In 2000, at the age of 15, Phelps became the youngest swimmer to ever be on the American Olympic team. At almost 16 years old, he set his first world record in the 200-meter butterfly. In 2016, he became the first male swimmer to attend five Olympic games. Phelps exemplifies the bodily-kinesthetic multiple intelligence as he is a phenomenal swimmer and athlete. He has a great understanding of how is body works so that he can excel in his sport of swimming. In reality, people are a combination of most every single one of the intelligences and certain intelligences blend into one another. For instance, there is a reason people connect with actors, they not only are they strong with their own bodily-kinetics, they also can connect with an audience showing that they have a great intrapersonal intelligence.
