Many people know that eating to make junk food can cause unwanted weight gain. What many people don’t know is that skipping a meal can also cause weight gain, even obesity. While people are educated about the effects of junk food unfortunately, they do not know how harmful skipping a meal can be for the human body. I used to be was one of those people, I didn’t know how harmful skipping breakfast was until taking this Health and Wellness class. When asked what more is damaging for one’s health the average person would say junk food due to of prior knowledge of the topic. Surprisingly research shows a very different story. Skipping a meal is worse for a person’s health than eating junk food.

Breakfast is also the meal that I would skip the most. But now I know that in order for me to be healthy I have to eat at least 3 meals a day and add snacks in-between. Without breakfast a person would feel tired and sluggish not long after waking up. In the academic journal Champions of breakfast: skipping the first meal of the day sets in motion hormonal changes linked to appetite shifts, obesity, and diabetes it’s says “anywhere from 10 to 50 percent of Americans skip breakfast”. People that skip breakfast develop irregular appetites and they can ultimately develop obesity or diabetes. After taking a look at my nutrition report for the 7 days, I saw big gaps in-between my meals. Also I saw that some days I wasn’t eating more than once a day and I noticed that I wasn’t getting the nutrients I need to have a healthy and energized body. I know that everything I do now will affect me when I am older and that why I want to make a change to my health before it’s too
