Eating Disorders and Alcohol Abuse
The relationship between eating disorders and alcoholism has become a widely researched topic only in the last fifteen years. Since 1985, there have been an increasing number of research and case studies substantiating a correlation between these two behavioral and addictive disorders. Alcoholism affects nearly 14 million United States citizens (http://silk.nih.gov/silk/niaaa1/publication/booklet.htm ). The four basic elements of this disease include a craving for, loss of control over, physical dependence on, and tolerance to alcohol (http://silk.nih.gov/silk/niaaa1/publication/booklet.htm). Unfortunately, there is no cure for alcoholism, although various forms of treatment have become available. Eating disorders also affect a vast number of people: approximately 1% of female adolescents have anorexia nervosa and 4% of college-aged women have bulimia nervosa (http://www.anred.com/stats.html ). Men experience eating disorders less than women and encompass only 5-10% of the populations of eating disorder patients (http://www.anred.com/stats.html ). There is no cure for eating disorders. However, varieties of medicinal and psychotherapy treatments have allowed for improvements in patients and critical debates. The following paper analyzes five research studies that examined the possible correlation between eating disorders and alcohol abuse. Each report provides a summary of the procedures, results, and discussions formulated by the researchers. Finally, a critique of the overall findings from each study will offer possible changes that might help concretize conclusions to the many unanswered questions concerning eating disorders and their tendency to result in alcohol abuse.

In Arthur Miller’s play, The Crucible, Miller demonstrated that it was Abigail William’s flaws – mendacity, lust, and arrogance – that led her to be responsible the most for the tragedy of the witch hunt in Salem, Massachusetts. Driven by lust, Abigail was able to lie to the Salem community in hopes of covering her and her friends’ deeds and gaining the attention of John Proctor. Her arrogance enabled her t0 advance her deceit.
...ect to the cognitive development of the brain. It gives small details about the normal development of the brain hemispheres and the difference between a child's brain and an adult's brain. White warns parents how they are damaging their children’s' brains by allowing them to watch excessive hours of television. Excessive hours of watching television causes an interruption in the child’s intelligence development, hindering the child’s responses to his/her environment. She states that it is best if parents do not let their children watch TV as a common way to amuse them. She advises parents to withdraw their children from the television to explore different situations by participating in healthier activities.
As one can see, eating disorders are real diseases with a biological basis that affect the brain and body and should be treated as any other disease. At least 24 million Americans suffer from eating disorders, which have the highest mortality rate of any mental illness. Twenty percent of people with eating disorders will die prematurely due to complications related to the disease. Schizophrenia, depression and a...
In conclusion I ask this again: how can a girl who condemned seventy two to a death sentence and drank a charm to kill a man’s wife, a man she slept with on more than one occasion, be the victim? Abigail is truly a victim just as much as one of those she condemned to death, because of Salem’s judgemental, self-concerned and oppressive views and beliefs led her to it.

... and taking into account people’s lifestyles today, it seems that achieving the same kind of health is quite difficult, if not absolutely impossible. With all the fast food chains lurking right outside our doorsteps, with all of the restaurants tempting us to take a bite, it is really quite difficult to achieve and eventually maintain a much improved lifestyle.

Eating disorders are an increasing health issue among not only females but males as well. Over the years the percentage of females with eating disorders has risen from 65 percent to 85-95 percent of the population (Anorexia Nervosa fact sheet, 2009). The percentage of males with eating disorders has increased from about 0.2 percent to 5-15 percent of the population (Boodman 2007). As the days go on, about half of the men and women with eating disorders do misdiagnosed. This is a major problem in the United States and not being diagnosed means no treatment, therefore no treatment means more health deterioration and more health deterioration leads many fatal complications. Eating disorders are serious and there have been many kinds reported and well known around the world. The most important types of eating disorders are anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, pica, and body dysmorphic disorder because these specific disorders are the most common and widely known and are the most widely diagnosed.
It may be hard to admit, but television has become an intricate part of our everyday lives. People children often find themselves sitting in front of the television screen for a longer period of time than before and this has evolved immensely over the past few years. In this article, “The Trouble with Television,” by the author Marie Winn, mentions that addiction of television is negative effects on children and families. It keeps the families from doing other things and it’s a hidden competitor for all other activities. Television takes place of play and on top of that kids who watch a lot of television grow uncivilized. Also, the author mentioned that televisions are less resourceful for children and have negative effects on children’s school achievement and on physical fitness. Although there are so many other types of addictions but the author Marie Winn’s points of argument of watching television is a serious addiction that our children and families have negative effects.
As a girl I grew up secluded. Being an only child I would often play by myself. I was wiser beyond my years, reading my mother’s books in our library. One book in particular caught my attention; (The Power of Birthdays, Stars & Numbers: The Complete Personology Reference Guide). This book told me everything I needed to understand my sun sign; Virgo. August 23-September 22 is the mark of the sun sign Virgo. I was born September 4th so I am a true Virgo. In the textbook, Virgos are analytical, observant, reliable, precise, skeptical, fussy and inflexible. The books say we are clean, tidy, and very organized. Timid, inverted, and sticks to a routine, they make Virgos sound dreary. These reputations are not concrete for every individual born under this sign. There are three main types of Virgos and two Virgo hybrids. The hybrids are the cusp of the Virgo sign; Leo-Virgo and Virgo-Libra. The three main types of Virgo are the, I’m better than everyone Virgo, the down to earth Virgo and the dreamer Virgo.
As the number of Chinese students studying abroad increases, researchers pay attention to how Chinese students respond to their life in foreign countries, mainly in US, UK and Australia. Although the situations in different countries vary a numbr of accounts indicate Chinese students face common problems which make them feel stressed.
Virgo folks appreciate many different points of view, simultaneously. What if Rene Descartes had been a Virgo? “I think, therefore I am; but of course, that’s just my opinion. I can see where others could honestly disagree, so maybe it should be: I think that others also think, therefore, I am a Virgo.”
Now threats come in a multitude of shapes and sizes. Not many years ago intrusion attacks were done by youngsters having an all-night hack-a-thon with loads of Redbull. Now such attacks are carried out by organized groups. It is not that they are doing it just to prove something, the groups look to exploit all and any of your vulnerable spots to run drugs and exploit their data repository. This is also done to tamper with the data, in order to remove evidence or vice versa. Although there is not a sing...
Television is by far the most popular and influential form of mass media. Children are exposed to television as early as infancy, by the time they are two-years-old, 90 percent of children regularly watch TV. Television has the ability to have tremendous impact of children, both in terms of how many hours a week they watch TV and what they are viewing on TV. Television affects children 's behavior, health, cognitive development, and learning. In this paper I will be arguing that Television does more harm than good on a child’s life.
Children spend hours in front of the television every day. Instead of eating dinners around a table as a family, many children eat dinner in front of the television. TV is full of programs that depict risky behaviors as cool, fun, and exciting. Whether the child's preference is a cartoon, an action packed movie, a dramatic series, professional sports such as boxing, news, nature programs or a crime scene show, the detrimental effects of TV becomes greater every time they tune in to watch a TV show. Since children are visual learners and television is a powerful teacher, children watch their favorite charac...
