Parents of children with dyslexia must be aware that this can worse over a period of time if there is no action been taken. Dyslexia is a type of a disorder that can’t be cured but it can be worked on to the level where is hardly noticeable for other people. Parents must be watching child’s progress from the early years. Parents have to encourage a child to take part in activities appropriate for child’s age – this can be the best they could do for their child. I think also that the parents shouldn’t be telling the child that he or she has dyslexia as it can lower their self-esteem or even put them off trying harder to tackle this problem . Parents shouldn’t take this as a problem or something to be ashamed of because it is not .

As they move through classes , problems with reading might get worse for them as reading becomes more important to learning. Children who have difficulty with reading shouldn’t be reading too long stories ,they should be only reading short stories so they can practice their reading and as they get better then they can progress to more complicated longer stories. It is important that child is supported all the way through this process so their self-esteem won’t get low due to problems with reading.

Dyslexia Association Ireland – is a registered company and charity that works with and for people affected with dyslexia by providing information ,offering appropriate support services locally and nationally.

The person who is responsible for ensuring that persons with disabilities or special needs can avail of support services according to the Education Act (1998) is the minister for education and Skills. The support services that the minister can provide for schools and for students with special educational needs and their parents include:
- assessment, to tell exactly the level of disability and what are the needs provided for the children with that disability
- adaptations to buildings to facilitate access and transport like building elevators in the school for children on wheelchairs, transport of children from and to school

Special needs assistants (SNAs) are to work with children who have specific care needs. They provide non-teaching care support. SNAs support children who have care needs resulting from a disability, behavioural difficulties or a medical issue. This includes significant physical or sensory function impairment .
