The purpose of this paper is to take a look and at what exactly police corruption is and how officers engage in this. This is the involvement of a law enforcement officer in anything related to the activity of a drug. After explaining and defining drug-related police corruption the next step was to see how often it occurs in law enforcement agencies. Looking at cases that have occured in the past is one way to see where and why this corrosion has occurred. additionally by also looking at data that was published on drug-related police corruption, we are able to see how often it has occured. lastly this paper will give what the solution to this major issue. A police officer may defy the law he/she swore to protect, defend and uphold it does not uphold the right attitude (Cheurprakobkit, 1998). Many police officers who fight against drugs feel that it is a waste of the time because drugs are taken by people willingly. If a police have a negative attitude towards fighting drug crimes, he can be persuaded to take bribes and support the cartel in their activities. Most police officers are underpaid and therefore they do not have enough to support themselves and their families. The drug businesses earn the cartels huge profits and the money they give the officers almost a hundred percent of what they earn to allow them to carry out their activities. In the US an analysis was done on the number of sales made of different drug and the report indicated that about $38 billion is earned through the sale of cocaine. Majorana and heroin earn $ billion and $ 10 billion respectively (Stevens, 1999). This report shows that the cartels make a lot of money through the sale of these drugs and therefore have money to buy their way out. Most police receive paychecks that cannot cater to their needs and are therefore tempted to receive money from the drug dealers to improve their living standards. Police officers should be properly supervised on their every move to ensure that they are not collaborating with drug criminals. Police should be trained on how to handle such situations so that their integrity level remains the same. Guidance and counseling would also help the police to deal with situations where they are at risk of committing drug-related crimes. Lastly, if a police is found guilty of helping drug dealers he or she should be sacked so that it would deter others from engaging in such
