Diversity in the workforce has increased tremendously over the year and not only does it increases effectiveness and efficiency; it has also become an issue to many organizations. But an organization would never have survived in such a diverse environment if it wasn't for those diversities within it. However, the more diverse the environment is; the more work managers have at hand. For instance, pregnant employees who are big contributors to a company may put the company at risk when they must leave work to give birth.
In today's world, it is usual for a female to go out and work to support her family including her spouse. The female population is increasing each day. Without a doubt, employers are looking into hiring more female as many of its target markets are also female. It is an approach that employers used to gather information through the diversities in its organization. For example, the female workers will have a higher knowledge of what colors of lipsticks other female wants and needs in the market over the male workers.
Although it seems as diversities are a great thing, it is also a threat to managers. According to the article, "Great Expectation," HR managers are having difficulties accommodating with their pregnant employees. In fact, many HR managers weren't trained to understand that they can violate the law and put their employers at risk with their decisions based on their bias of pregnant women. Under the Pregnancy Discrimination Act (PDA), the Family and Medical Leave Act, and the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act (ADAAA), pregnant employees' rights are protected. A manager may not move the employee to a different position assuming that she cannot fulfill her job due to her pregnancy.

With the increasing female in the workforce, it can be an opportunity for a company to fully engaged and share knowledge to increase their profitability. In contrast, many cases are, diversities become a threat to many companies; reducing their ability to compete with others in the business world. Lastly, to avoid future harms and damages, decisions that managers make must be comply with the laws; a general environment that is as important as the task environment.
