Women in the workplace have always been discriminated against. Ever since the first women started to work... ... middle of paper ... ... that women were in some way not as accomplished or competent as men. Yet, a more in depth investigation would show that women are just as qualified, if not more so, than men. A principal of equal pay for equal work should be employed by all businesses and would definitely close the income gap. Most people want to correct the unequal treatment of women in the work force.
However, a full-time working woman earns only seventy-seven cents for every dollar a man makes. These days women make up half the workplace in our society; they work just as hard and for the same reasons. Women deserve to be paid at an equal rate as men because they are relied on to uphold the same responsibilities and are just as qualified to perform at a man’s level. Women and their Families Rely on Women’s Salary Many people do not realize how important the salary of a woman is, or how much one family may depend on it. Many may think that all men are head of all households.
Introduction Throughout the history of mankind, the rank of women has been extremely pivotal in the development of the humans. At present, the progress of the nation is determined by the high positions of the women in the society in terms of the employment and the work. It is said that without the contribution of the women in the political, business, social, economic and national activities, the growth of the country will stagnate. In the past, the women were more accustomed to working in homes and taking care of children, etc. but now they are stepping into the outside world due to advances in education for women and increasing awareness.
Though bringing in a new wave of women into leadership and management or STEM may be a lofty goal, public recognition of the status quo and its inequality plays a key role in change. Today, women are not longer solely subject to household work and serving her husband and children, nor are they limited in a choice between raising a family and having a career. As the presence of women in the workforce evolves, it becomes necessary to ensure equality in the wages of women compared to their male counterparts and in the careers women are encouraged to pursue. In doing so, America can truly embody its founding ideals that “All men are created equal”. All men and women.
Women showed their skill and ability to work, changing their role in society. “Women were hired for traditionally male occupations” (“Women in business”). After being hired for male jobs, women were portrayed differently and not as the average housewife. In 1944 women addressed the fact they do not get equal pay for equal work and to have working conditions improved (“Women in Society”). That included having childcare for working mothers.
Traditionally, women are stereotyped as being committed to only on doing household works but in our society today, they play significant roles not only at home but also in workplaces such as schools, offices, and businesses. They are now able to have the careers of their choice, and even have the same careers as men do. For example, back then being a police officer is ought to be a man’s job. Nowadays, one can see a woman entering different fields of occupation like in law, carpentry, medicine and sports. This proves that women have as equal rights as men.
Women should be educated, have the ability to work their dream job and feel beautiful. Women have come a long way from not being eligible to vote to voting more than men do. “Yet, women still hold less than 20 percent in congress, even though they make up half the population” (Cavanagh). Women deserve the same given rights as men. Anti-feminists abruptly feel that females are weak and inferior to society.
The choices many women now have in there career fields has made some controversial views on the intelligence of women achieving the status of their male counterparts The first view obtained in the workplace is the ability to make a even paying field for both men and women. Many constituents have pledge to achieve equality for women through laws forbidding the use of any sexist policies that may constitute discrimination against sex. The second is weather working women have been allowed to working women have the same opportunities rewarded to them as men do. Many political action committees have help perpetuate feminist movements which intended to build equal opportunity workplaces for both men and women however, many questionable issues still arise at weather working conditions have become better for women. American culture is filled with stereotypes that puts out false message about gender roles.
Statistics show that women get paid 23 percent less than men do. This statistic is extremely disarming . It is time for women to stand up for themselves and work towards breaking through the unnecessary stereotypes. It is unfortunately clear that when it comes to being leaders in a group, men outnumber women. This ideal has been put into society from quite the early age.
Today woman are not held back by the mere notion that they are woman so they should do this because society norms say so. Women have been trying to get into male heavy jobs such as construction. Even though this are generally seen as male dominated jobs the high pay has lead woman out of the public sector and into these high paying manual labor jobs. Although, the cycle no longer continues the struggle for equality is a never ending, in which woman are continually fighting for. In recent years there has been a raise in woman’s unionizations that has helped them create a voice within the general public.
