Disability Discrimination Act 1995- By law settings are required to make ‘reasonable adjustments’ to prevent disabled children/person being discriminated against. At my placement, all areas are accessible via ramps and they have disabled toilet facilities. They provide one to one support for children with special educational needs where necessary so all children can access all areas of the curriculum.
Of course all the facilities and adjustments the school has made, also make the school accessible to parents and staff with physical disabilities, ensuring the school is inclusive to all.

The protection extends to discrimination in a broad range of activities, including public services, public accommodations and employment. The ADA's ban against disability discrimination applies to both private and public employers in the United States.

The Americans with Disability Act of 1990 (ADA) was put into force to protect employees from discrimination with disabilities in the area of employment. A person with a disability can be defined under the ADA as someone who has a physical or mental impairment which considerably limits one or more of major life activities. “It has been estimated that nearly one in five Americans has one or more physical or mental disabilities”(law book pg115). The ADA federal law requires that employers with 15 or more employees not to discriminate against applicants and current employees with disabilities and, when needed, provide reasonable accommodations to these individuals who are more than qualified to work. These individuals are protected in regard to the application process, hiring, advancement, firing, compensation/benefits, training or other privileges of employment. If an individual is requesting accommodation due to a disability and can be reasonably accommodated without creating an undue hardship or causing a direct threat to workspace safety must be given the same consideration for employment as any other applicant. An employer is not obligated to hire anyone that is not qualifies to what is considered the essential functions of the job according to the ADA. An accommodation under the ADA must allow the employee enjoy equal benefits, given an equal opportunity for the person with the disability to be considered for the job and to perform the essential functions.
The Disability Discrimination Act (which has subsequently been amended by the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 (Amendment) Regulations 2003 which came into force on 1 October 2004) makes it unlawful to discriminate against disabled persons in employment, including in recruitment, training and other benefits. The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is one of the most significant laws in American History. Before the ADA was passed, employers were able to deny employment to a disabled worker, simply because he or she was disabled. With no other reason other than the person's physical disability, they were turned away or released from a job. The ADA gives civil rights protections to individuals with disabilities similar to those provided to individuals on the basis of race, color, sex, national origin, age, and religion. The act guarantees equal opportunity for individuals with disabilities in public accommodations, employment, transportation, State and local government services, and telecommunications. The ADA not only opened the door for millions of Americans to get back into the workplace, it paved the road for new facilities in the workplace, new training programs, and created jobs designed for a disabled society (Frierson, 1990). This paper will discuss disabilities covered by the ADA, reasonable accommodations employers must take to accommodate individuals with disabilities, and the actions employers can take when considering applicants who have disabilities.

Students with disabilities can have a smooth transition from school to post school activities. The transitional services and regulations provided by the government guarantee that students will be provided with the education, social skills and community support needed for the transition to be flawless and successful. There are many parts involved in the education, implementation and transition of students with disabilities. Sometimes seeing this takes an emotional toll on people. They are often taken aback by what they have experienced and most people do not understand mental or physical disabilities and the rights that come along with having a disability. But what are these rights exactly? Dudley writes, "Achieving a consensus on what constitutes human rights has been a challenge for the political leaders and others responsible for protecting human rights" (Dudley 20). People all over the world have different ideas and opinions on what constitutes as a human right. People are split between where human rights come from. Some believe that God created them and others believe that human rights come from laws. Some also believe that the human rights are inherent to natural law (Dudley 11). The origin of human rights is solely based upon opinion. But it is not an opinion on which human rights should protect all of those who are human. Those who suffer from mental and physical disabilities should not be excluded from having human rights or treated unfairly because of their disability.
Disabled people should be able to access all service providers, whether this would be in a place of work, place of education and a place of worship. The implementation of the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) 1995 and then the 2005 Act, coming into effect from 2004 meant that churches are required by law to comply by making reasonable adjustments and not to treat disabled people unfairly (DDA 1995, 2005). This proved to be a challenge as reported by the BBC (2004) that many Church of England buildings are ancient and listed. The implications of complying with the law has had a financial impact on churches and places of worship as further reported by the BBC (2003) of a church closing down the community hall. The importance of access to places of worship is shown in research by Rose (1997) writing that going to church and church activities were one of the most frequent by young disabled people. However she further says that activity participation was restricted and low (Rose, 1997), possible reasons could be knowledge of leaders.
For many years people have fought for equal rights and they are still fighting to win this battle. Also, people are still fighting to win the battle of discrimination and inequality. This paper will discuss discrimination of students with disabilities and the unequal treatment of women.
Whether born from ignorance, fear, misunderstanding, or hate, society’s attitudes limit people from experiencing and appreciating the full potential a person with a disability can achieve. This treatment is unfair, unnecessary, and against the law (Purdie). Discrimination against people with disabilities is one of the greatest social injustices in the country today. Essential changes are needed in society’s basic outlook in order for people with disabilities to have an equal opportunity to succeed in life. To begin with, full inclusion in the education system for people with disabilities should be the first of many steps that are needed to correct the social injustices that people with disabilities currently face.
