Abortion is a commonly talked about subject, but infanticide is not brought up nearly as often. Infanticide is the killing of a child who is less than a year old, often by his or her own parents. There are a few different forms of infanticide, and the ones that will be discussed in this essay are partial-birth abortion, direct infanticide, and indirect infanticide. Partial-birth abortion can be as easily defined as an abortion that doesn't take full course on the baby, thus the baby is purposely killed during birth. Often, the abortionist will pull the baby out feet first, but keeping it's head lodged in the cervix. The abortionist will then make a hole at the base of the baby's skull, and attach a catheter. Reasons for direct infanticide my include religious beliefs, other than Christianity, and population control. Direct infanticide is more recognizable than indirect infanticide. Indirect infanticide starts when a baby's nutrition needs are not met. Neglect and careless parenting also contribute to indirect infanticide. This is especially common when an unwanted baby becomes sick. Regardless of the different names and types of infanticide, they are all ways of killing defenseless children. "Now they were bringing even infants to him that he might touch them. And when the disciples saw it, they rebuked them. But Jesus called them to him, saying, "Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God. Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it."" (Luke 18:15-17) Jesus loves children no less than anyone else. He welcomes them into his arms. Not only does the bible tell of Jesus' love for children, but it also tells in Exodus 20:13 "You shall not murder," which is the sixth commandment. We as Christians know that murder is a terrible thing, even those who don't believe know how terrible it is, but many don't understand the value of life.
