He is also a dynamic character, as he goes through an important inner change when he begins to understand himself as he recalls the bear. 2. Mrs. Hax is described as a flat character. We do not see Mrs. Hax undergo any change throughout the story. Which is why she can also be portrayed as a static character. Mrs. Hax shows no character growth. She stays the same icy, impersonal, callous woman from beginning to end.

Steven Alper’s life started out completely normal. In the playwright Hamlet by William Shakespeare, there are many characters that change throughout the play. For example, Hamlet is one of the characters who changed a lot throughout the play. Hamlet changes a lot because at first, Hamlet was depressed then became suicidal and in the end, Hamlet wanted revenge. However, Ophelia is also a character that changes throughout the play. In the novel Fahrenheit 451, Ray Bradbury creates a world resembling our current world. This novel is about Montag, a fireman who burns books instead of preventing fires, because it is against the law to have books. Without the use of books, people are dumb, and they don’t know what they are talking about. Montag hates the idea of books, but throughout the novel he learns why they are necessary, resulting in him becoming a dynamic character. A definition of a dynamic character is a character that grows and changes throughout a story. At the end of the story, Montag changes emotionally and mentally. The biggest example of how selfish he is, is when he tricks Ender. He knew that Ender was not emotionally prepared to win the battle, but when he does and tells Ender, he is nothing but happy because he got what he wanted. On page 35 Graff explains to Ender “Then too bad. Look, Ender. I'm sorry if you're lonely and afraid. But the buggers are out there. Ten billion, a hundred billion, a million billion of them, for all we know. With as many ships, for all we know. With weapons we can't understand. And a willingness to use those weapons to wipe us out.

Flat characters, also known as supporting characters, do not develop fully or express complex emotions. A stock character, also known as a stereotype, fits an established characterization from real life or literature. With these three types of characters leading the reader through the story, the reader learns the events taking place as well as the changes in the character’s lives. The author keeps the reader informed of the changes affecting the characters throughout the narrative through style. When a character undergoes a fundamental change in nature or personality during the story, the character has dynamic style. However, a character without change defines a static character. Although all characters have a style and type sometimes understanding the differences appears complicated. A chart often helps establish a better understanding of character type and style.
In Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, a beautiful bond between a father and a daughter is seen in the strong relationship between Elizabeth and her father, Mr. Bennet. Admiring Elizabeth’s intelligence and maturity that all the other Bennet sisters, except for Jane, seem to lack, Mr. Bennet deems her as his favorite daughter. In return, Mr. Bennet’s level headedness and sensibility earns him Elizabeth’s respect. Importantly, his logical and calm disposition comforts her in light of her mother’s foolishness and absurdity. While Mrs. Bennet concerns herself with wealth, social status, and how well her daughters can benefit her reputation, Mr. Bennet genuinely cares about his daughters’ happiness.
