It was a clear sunny day, spare the few clouds in the sky, the kind that children are so fond of pointing at and calling a dog or train, down the gravel driveway to the barn and house of Graystone stables. Up in their unseen perches, birds call out dutifully, whether they are asking for help or seeking a mate, their chirps and squawk all blend together to form a type of chorus. But every now and then a bird will quit the choir to seek the comforts of the grass. All of the birds were scared from the ground though when they heard the soft puts of a tractor passing by on its way to the barn. The shortest of the three, a white horse became tired of the brown horse constantly rubbing into his side in an attempt to get rid of the bugs. The white horse whipped his head around to display a full set of large, and slightly yellowed, teeth. With his ears pinned back against his head and with a good loud snort, the brown horse began to back away slowly from the white horse’s potential bite. Unfortunately the brown horse backed right into the other, and slightly larger, white horse. Unconcerned with the following events the short white horse returned to eat the grass and swat at the never ceasing bugs. The large white horse upset by this sudden interruption to his snacking, threw back both hooves and let out a squeal, sending the brown horse reeling backwards even further. The flying hooves just barely missed their intended target. Pleased with his display of dominance, the large white horse also returned his attention back to the clover grass and the difficult job of keeping flies at bay. The brown horse clearly upset by the ordeal and not wanting to repeat it, walked slowly back to the front of the pasture. Munching on some of the grass patches along the way, he kept a watchful eye out for the two white horses. When he reached the gate, he let a lonely whinny. Relieved that the puppy held his bladder long enough to get outside the boy sat down underneath a tree and waited for the puppy to finish his business. The puppy, after relieving himself, began to playfully nip at the boy’s arm happy that his playmate came down to a level where they could both play. Understanding the cue, the boy began to roll the puppy over and they enacted in a mock dogfight. Not taking the game seriously the puppy began to lick the boy’s face, causing the boy to laugh.
