Dentistry Personal Statement Examples

When I was a child, I looked at a mirror one day, and I was amazed by the fact that I was aware of my eyes looking at my face. It was a moment of epiphany for me that I was conscious of my senses working properly.

The experience that day changed the way I look at the human body, and I started to appreciate the magnificence of it. In addition to the appreciation of the body, I wanted to know what causes so much physical pain in it. I was particularly interested in toothache because that was the most frequent and personal disease I suffered during my childhood. In addition, I met a dentist who was willing to provide a mentorship so my interested in dentistry grew tremendously.

When I started my undergraduate study at the University of Illinois, I chose chemistry as my major with the intention of becoming a dentist. During my undergraduate year, I gained some invaluable experiences such as working and researching in a nanotechnology lab and exploring different areas of sciences such as Environmental Chemistry and Speech and Hearing Science. I, however, was not mature enough academically and did not achieve enough academic success in order to gain an admission from dental school.

The goal was to show admission faculties of dental schools that I am capable of mastering upper-level biology classes such as Human Gross Anatomy and Histology and to prepare for my future study in dental school. During my Master’s study at Mississippi College, I developed a strict lifestyle through time management in order to maximize time for studies.
