Freedom. What a marvelous word! How much ebullience there is in it! Freedom describes the opportunities and dreams we can achieve everyday. Freedom itself is the availability of choice. It's something we can choose whether we want to or not. Everyday, we have the luxury to say what we want, do what we want, and choose where we want to utilize these rights. When performing these actions, we not only exercise our basic freedoms, but we exercise our basic liberties. Liberty is the power we possess to act as we please through freedom and independence. Liberty and security represent the basic values that create a Democratic Society, including that of the United States period Democratic Values support the belief that freedom must be preserved in order to maintain an orderly Society. In other countries, the beliefs of freedom and security is non existent. Countries such as Cuba, Iran, and North Korea are ruled by a dictatorship. This autocratic form of government refers to a form of absolute power and Rule when were the leaders are unrestricted by law, Constitution or other social and political factors. The people living in these countries do not have the chance to exercise their basic liberties. For example, it was illegal for woman to receive an education in Pakistan. However, when Malala Yousafzai went against the rules placed upon her, she became a global icon for girls across the nation. Malala fought for her right to receive an education, which in turn almost ended her life. Malala had to fight for a right that should have already been given to her. Others in political power would not listen to her and her plea for women's education, and in return she had to fight for something that Americans take for granted. Throughout history, Americans have sought to spread the spirit of equality, which is believed to be the realization of true freedom. Before establishing this freedom, every American had only one question stuck in their head: What is freedom? Our country received it in the year of 1776 from the British through a series of difficulties and wars. African Americans defined it as an escape from slavery, while immigrants defined it as their acceptance into a new society. More yet, women of the women’s suffrage defined their freedom as their recognition into society and for their rights to be equal to that of every other man. Harriet Tubman, a slave, along with many other slaves did not know what freedom was like. They did not what hope felt like until one person made a change. Harriet Tubman. A women. A black slave. She made that change for the better. She was able to escape from slavery and to the South for herself and hundreds of other slaves. She later became a leading abolitionist and most famous conductor of Underground Railroad. Harriet Tubman changed Americans civil rights using the Underground Railroad saving the lives of hundreds.

Ever since the New World was discovered, people have been fighting for their independence till this day. People of other colors and race have been forced to do labor without their consent. Today, those same people have been blamed or accused of crimes that were not committed by them despite of being free. Freedom has different meanings and those meanings change overtime; however sometimes the significance of freedom does not change.
The Bill of Rights laid out the liberties and rights of its citizens. We are allowed to speak badly about our government. We are able to protest when we feel we have been wronged or we want something changed. We can bear firearms freely. We have the right against being detained without a speedy trial. I would not know a life where I could not speak freely. I might not be able to write this article if there was not free speech. Many countries have a shortage of these liberties. They aren't allowed to follow their dreams or pursue the happiness that every one of us seeks throughout our lives. We reach for it, live for it, and even die for it.
